Who has the best standup in each weight class?

I was debating with a friend the other day and i am now curious to see what you guys think. This is just about their ability to strike and nothing else. For me its :

Bj Penn

Paul Daley

Anderson Silva

Machida

Junior dos Santos

I am basing this on what i have seen from each fighter throughout the years i have seen them compete. This is just my opinion and im sure many people will disagree with what i have wrote but imo the above are the best at there weight classes when it comes to pure stand up. When making your points please assume its k1 rules and its only stand up

Looks like you got it about right to me. Machida and Shogun might be interchangeable but we'll find out for sure in their next fight.

Thats the one i debated the most, i think theres not a lot in it but i personally think Machida will win the next fight and therefore i thought i had to give it to him.

Agreed, Machida Shogun one is the only one open to debate right whereas the others are not very disputable. Actually...tell a lie..Thiago Alves a very strong striker who Paul would have to take seriously...

HW: Right now I would have to go with JDS from what I have seen so far.

LHW: I personally think that Machida has the best striking ability but Shogun is right up there with him so I guess we will find out later this year.

MW: I refuse to pick until I see Vitor and Silva fight each other.

WW: MMA striking I would go with GSP. Due to his wrestling ability, every fighter's striking has suffered tremendously because they are so worried about the takedown. Pure striking ability I would do with either Daley or Alves. Daley has outstanding hands but Alves seems to utilize more kicks and mixes it up a bit more.

LW: BJ Penn has the most technical striking in this division. His boxing is very crisp and he has good power in both hands. He is fast and he outstrikes everyone in his division.

I consider GSP to have the most effective standup at WW but as you said, it has a lot to do with factors other than his striking, or so it would seem. Going purely off of striking I would agree that Daley or Alves are probably the most likely candidates though I'd be curious to see what would happen if GSP chose to stand and trade with either of them rather than mixing it up with takedowns. Guess thats the beauty of GSP's style, the fight goes where he wants it.

Great list!

I'd have said shogun over machida at LHW currently, but I need to see their second fight to say for sure. Machida has been doing the same things for a long time, and shogun figured him out. Their second fight will be determined entirely on how well machida has changed his game, if he pulls a chuck liddell and stays the same shogun will beat him again. However, as I said in the first fight, I see machida making those changes and beating him.
