I really hated watching Kongo take Buentello down over and over again. Kongo hit Buentello twice flat on his chin and then went for a takedown - what?!
Otherwise... the fights were kinda 'meh', but a fight's a fight and I'll be there to watch it.
Agreed, I think the main thing was not getting what I expected. They weren't TERRIBLE fights (I would argue no really good ones, but not atrocious), but really NONE of them were what we expected.
Kongo - Really? The only thing I WASN'T surprised about were the illegal blows, yes, I know the one was kind of PB's fault, but still. How many times are we gonna let this guy get away with fighting dirty and boring
and KEEP him in the roster? I also think he was clearly winning the fight on his feet, and really didn't have any reason to go for the TD. ESPECIALLY considering he wasn't really doing ANYTHING with it, just laying on him, with the occasional knee. VERY dissapointing compared to the stand-up war we expected between a high-level K1 kickboxer and an excellent boxer.
JDS - Now this one I think is the only one that really did live up to the hype. Great fight, GG had some interesting attempts, but JDS is just fierce. The quick trade of head-kicks made me laugh out loud (although GG's was closer to the KO and JDS's was WAY harder).
JJ/Vera - just uber dissapointing. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame either fighter...well, I don't blame JJ. Lol, I am/was a HUGE Vera fan, and you're really gonna say "if you go to the ground with me, you're getting submitted", than have JJ lay on you with his arms ALL over the place and do NOTHING?! Just sad. I also do give alot more credit to JJ because he THREW Vera around. And yes, the fact that Randy Couture couldn't take him down, and JJ did AT WILL, is a HUGE feather in his cap. I think the only reason it was dissapointing is because how badly JJ dominated Vera.
