You guys that think randy can beat Tim are crazy! I love the guy, and big Tim os a total loaf, but randy is done with a capital d. Stick a fork in it baby and don't forget the gravy.

Randy a few years ago may have been able to do it, but he doesn't have the speed left to shoot in for takedowns, sylvia will just jab him to pieces. Yeah, I know, it sucks, and I know you all want poopypants to lose that belt, and you would love to see Randy winning fights, I do too. But if you step back and think realisticly about it, it ain't gonna happen, plus we are going to have to see randy loose to tim ****ing syliva.

I think Randy was a better fighter when he faught at HW. He was alot stronger and I think he will be able to take Sylvia down. His takedowns are alot better than Monson's. I cant wait to see this fight

I hate the idea...Randy has a lot to loose while Tim has a lot to gain from this. Tim will just add this to his credentials in a very boring fashion as usual, while Couture will just diminish his legacy.

monson sucks compared to randy. randy has brutal takedowns, brutal ground and pound, damn good standup and a hell of allot of experience.

just because hes old doesent mean anything, back when he foguht tito they thought he was too old.

then liddel ko'd him twice and now people are saying hes too old again. man liddels a great fighter and he made adjustments to the way he fought randy and thats why he won not because randy was too old.

What if Couture wins though? It would be kind of a **** move to take the belt then just retire, so then would we would see him probably fighting Crocop? Now I love Randy Couture and I do think he can take Tim Sylvia, but Crocop would probably have his way with him. Either way though I think this is going to be great for the UFC and much better then seeing Gonzaga vs Sylvia.

Definitely HUGE news...but I can't stand it when athletes go back on their own spoken word.

Randy @ UFC 57: "This is the last time you're gonna see these gloves and these shorts in this octagon. I'm retiring tonight. I wanna thank all my fans for all their support. That's it for me. I'm ready to do somethin' else."

Ok, so what was the point in "retiring" at all Randall? :dunno:

now if suppose that Randy fight Tim, i think it is good for both of them to retire after fight, i say this for their health. look at wanderlei silva after 2th crocop fight ......

cause i dont want to see Randy get a kick to head by crocop.
but about tim it's on him...

by the way no disrespect Randy.....

When i heard this I got the feeling the UFC came up with the idea. I don't think Couture has that much of a chance vs Sylvia, in fact Couture outright stated that it was guys like Sylvia which forced him to stop fighting HW. He said wthat wheny ou have people cutting weight to make 265 and having such a sick reach advantage, it becomes hard to deal with.

I think the UFC contracted Couture to fight (and lose) to make Syvlia a bit more popular/respected before he gets murdered by Crocop.

You should post more often man your sig is the shit and your avatar is pretty cool too. I can't stop watching your sig though that's the longest one of those I have seen.

I think Randy could beat Tim if he wanted, he's not that bad and out of shape. I think this is awesome now maybe I will cough up some money to go watch UFC68 live now that it has a decent main event. If he beats him I wonder if he will retire again or keep fighting. Maybe he will retire and then UFC will set up a vacant title fight between CroCop and Sylvia. :dunno: At least then we may see a hungry Tim again instead of boring old 'play it safe' Tim. It would definately make the fight bewteen him and CroCop more entertaining if Tim was hungry for that belt again.

I don't think anyone in there right mind in the ufc would make a couture v crocop fight, it would just be murder. I think randy can beat silvia and then he may fight a few more fights whilst crocop is having his warmup matches to get people used to him and get his name out there to newbs, after randy is done then crocop will take over.

Bottom line is randy couture is a legend..... I dont like him much huh :)

I'm pumped to hear this announcement. Couture had some great Heavyweight fights in the UFC and I think that he still has it. It's not like Couture has been sitting around his house since retirement, in fact, I read somewhere in an interview that he stays busier now than he was when he was a full time fighter. He is still in great shape and has been competing in smaller submission wrestling shows and shit like that. I could see him beating Sylvia and then a Cro Cop/Couture fight would be awesome. I think its stupid for people to complain about him retiring and then coming back, yes maybe when he is much older and can't compete, but he is only 43 and can still go. I thought he shouldn't have retired in the first place, but he made that decision and who are we to criticize him for second guessing his own decision and deciding to make a return to something he loves??

I'm very excited to hear this. I will be rooting for Randy, although I don't know how much his age is going to hinder him. I'd love to see him take Tim down and pound him for 3 or 4 rounds, but we'll have to see how hard it is to get in on him due to his sheer size.

wow! I can't believe some of the people posting here are the same people who ripped Shamrock a new one for not retiring after a couple of stompings. When Randy did retire a lot of you said it was great because he was done but now he's coming back it's all amazing again. I understand the fighter spirit and him wanting to come back but just because more people like him, it doesn't make it any different to Shamrock wanting to carry on.

Ken Shamrock had four consective losses before he decided to retire! His last win was two years ago against Kimo! Before that win he was coming off two more loses against Frye and Ortiz! With that in mind, the man realized he had to retire. Unlike Ken, Randy was able to beat Vitor Belfort, Tito Ortiz, Mike Van Arsdale, and Chuck Liddell in the past four years! His recent loss was to Chuck Liddell, meaning only the best can take him down! Randy can still hang in there, unlike Shamrock!

Aha and is this based on the fact you like him more. In the last couploe of years Shamrock lost to Franklin who became middleweight champ soon after, Sakuraba (which was highy debateable and Ortiz who was the former champ and number one contender. You're missing my point anyway, I think it's a good thing Shamrock retired but all I'm saying is Randy should stay retired as well. He lost twice to chuck and retired with dignity. Keep it that way

I'm still not sure what to think of Randy coming out of retirement to fight at heavyweight.
He retired at just the right moment, passing the torch to Liddell in their second fight and then confirming in their third fight that Chuck is really the class act he [Chuck] is.
But I also like to see him put a beating on Sylvia. That would be an astonishing feat to pull off. Somehow I don't think this is preferable for UFC management. They want to have a fight of the champ vs one of the old PRIDE-fighters (OWGP champ CroCop / Heath / Aleks (?)) and I think if Randy wins the title, they feel like the heavyweight championship is devaluated by then.

Anyway, it is an interesting development.

Well, I would personally rather have Randy Couture representing my company in that match instead of Tim Sylvia. UFC managemant probably welcomed this idea, because if they look at Sylvia's popularity and his quality of fights since winning at UFC 59, him being champion can't be good in a business sense.

i dont know what to say !!!?
it means that maybe we see randy and crocop in future too?? or randy and arlovski too ? or he want to fight sylvia and then say goodbye and again next year come and fight current champion.
about F*cking time! he should have done this months ago. But it looks like the HW division ain't looking so bad. there is light at the end of the tunnel => Crocop
