I think it is because we all know deep down that BJ is a better MMA fighter than Frankie. BJ came in with a pretty bad gameplan, which I think was no gameplan at all.

I think he planned to outbix a fighter and not Frankie. Frankie didn't have to adjust his striking because it actually is a nice match up to BJ's boxing.

BJ should have been ready for the possibility of a close fight on the feet and been ready to attempt to get it to the ground where think we can all agree he would have a massive advantage over Edgar.

I don't really know what to make of the lightweight picture right now. Whatever happened last night, BJ is still the best fighter in the division. I'm also not sold on wether Edgar could take on KenFlo. Suddenly this division is so much more open and there are many questions to be answered.

I still think it's disrespectful to BJ to fight more than 1 fight before he is back in a titlefight though. If BJ takes on a guy like Maynard, and does anything like he did against Diego or Kenny, he should get the shot without a doubt. BJ seemed to be hitting his prime, widely regarded as unbeatable at 155, finally got his act together and his training second to none. Then he comes in looking like a mess and loses his belt. Was BJ 100 per cent stepping in to the octagon against Edgar? I still don't know what to make of this.

yeah I definatlly think one fight then back to fight frankie for penn I just cant wrap my head around who that fight should be. everyone deserving of that fight cant beat bj and i think they know that.

I think they are making a mistake having maynard skip past bj penn and go for the title but on the same note i think having one of the other guys that penn dismantled in his fight go for the fight instead of maynard does not make just as much sense

Im really curious how this all pans out

Edgar v Maynard and then Kenny gets the winner and THEN BJ get's the winner of that. Not sure there's a point in him fighting anyone else between, maybe he should just rest.

Ya it is gonna be interesting. I think they are understanably afraid that if the don't give Maynard a pass and set him up with BJ he will lose. Then they can't hype the rematch between Edgar and Maynard.

How about Sotiropoulos? Pellegrino? Jim Miller? I really don't know...

Maybe BJ will cut the losses and move up to WW permanently. If so I'd like to see Sotiropoulos/Kenny with the winner facing the loser of Edgar/Maynard.
Close fight one of the judges scored it a 50-45...i rewatched the fight and i'm pretty sure he was robbed. oh well i guess that's the new way of getting the belt...jab and run

yeah, i don't know how he can justify going to WW after he just apparently got beat by a true featherweight

Does anyone truly doubt that the BJ Penn that fought Sanchez couldn't beat Edgar? The torch has been passed, BJ is in the twilight of his career and wants big fights that will establish his legacy and honestly I feel like they are not in the UFC LW division. He comes back and fights Edgar and wins then what? The division is empty so he relinquishes his title and the next champ will forever be thought of as a second rate champion who never beat the real champ. Its the perfect way for Penn to make his exit. He lost a controversial decision, he saves face and Edgar's reign isn't tarnished.

True but as a penn fan i would prefer the relinquishing of the title to losing the title but im selfish like that

No, as far as boxing goes it's

1.Edgar
2.Penn

a distant 10-20, the rest of the division, if you get my drift. Penn overall has more skill but he played into the only advantage Edgar had. Clinch with Edgar and take him to the ground, where he isn't as strong. So where nobody in the rest of the division can beat BJ in any aspect of the game except for Edgar and his boxing, there are a lot of holes to exploit in Edgar's game comparatively by a lot of other guys.
