I think that BJ just thinks he's invincible at LW so he didnt bother coming up with a unique gameplan for each of his fights. He just wants to stand and bang, and punish you when you try to take him down. Deigo and Kenny and Stevenson all fight the kind of fight that BJ wants his opponent to fight. If Edgar had pressed BJ the way Deigo did Im guessing he'd have gotten beaten up and KOed. No one has tried to pick BJ apart in a striking match before Edgar. Also, I've got to think that one of the reasons that Edgar's cardio made such a difference was that they were fighting outside in the desert. Frankie's definitely got the cardio edge, but if it wasnt so hot and humid I don't think BJ would have slowed down the way he did in the 5th.

IMO BJ sees himself as a warrior, and he (rightly) feels he can win any war at LW, but Frankie didnt give him a war, he just stuck to his gameplan of sticking and moving. Look for BJ to bring it to Edgar in the rematch. Use his punches to setup the clinch and smoosh Frankie against the fence then drag him down and choke him out. Or maybe he'll just be more aggressive standing with Frankie. Frankie moves really fast and is hard as hell to hit so if I was BJ I would just take him to the mat because he could get picked apart while he chases the little guy all around the cage.

Bottom line, if BJ makes it a war there is no way Frankie retains. Penn has the KO power that Edgar doesn't,and Penn's ground game would finish Edgar if he took him down.

I think the problem is still the way they judge fights. Frankies main weapon in that fight was his leg kicks, besides from that he landed some average punches that didnt seem to effect BJ much. So I guess it comes down to how valuable do you perceive those leg kicks to be.

All I know is Edgars leg kicks wer'nt half as effective as Rua's yet the judges gave Frankie alot of credit for his kicks and Rua none! Makes no sense to me

I agree, and they said Rue didn't win because you have to TAKE decisively from the Champ, and that Machida went for more punches/ attempts to end the fight...

Then we see Edger imo lose the first 3 and i still saw Bj win the 4th then Frankie won the final...

And a Judge gave Frankie all 5 rounds.... WHY and HOW?! It makes me sick!

Immediate Rematch is deserved, looks like edgar was just lucky enough to have it be that 1 time in a hundred where BJ has an off night. Honestly, Frank you got the champ on an off night in some far off city, and you still didnt beat him.

special thanks to

Rashad Evans
Shane Carwin
Anderson Silva
and of course Gray Maynard

I think that Edgar took the fight. I thought that he did more damage and was more fluid in his striking. That's just the way that I saw it.
