The fights are not always live due to the unpredictable length of each fight on a card. 9 or 10 fights should be scheduled but you will rarely see them all with your PPV. The undercard bouts start earlier than the PPV and are used as filler if the major fights end too quickly. The main event should always be live minus the programming delay.

thats exactly how it works, i was at ufc 55 (im not bragging i promise) and they had the undercard fights, then the main fights. I did not watch it on ppv when I got home or anything, but im sure, do to the timing they showed a few of the undercard fights after the Arlovski/Buentello fight
