That was a gimmick fight for Pride's first US event. They wanted a well known American to take on Fedor so the fans could have someone to cheer for. The ironic thing is that the fans actually cheered louder for Fedor. See the American fans aren't all retarded. Some of them get it.

Yep I agree, it seems to be the ploy as of late. Hopefully Couture puts a kink in someones plans.

Yes you are correct on the age difference butyou can't even compare the two on physical attributes and overall conditioning, Hughes is in a whole different league just like Randy Couture is at 42, not many will have that same luck, so IMO Hughes was beating up an old man. I like Gracie but his time has passed him by and he forgot to evolve with the sport.

In that scenario the Hughes-Gracie, Ortiz-Shamrock and now the Sylvia-Couture fights are gimmick fights as well. They are done for the simply purpose of drawing interest into the PPV/card and draw money.

i didnt use to watch ufc before so i didnt know who tito ortiz was until he beat shamrock first time, which is like most guys in my school tito ortiz beat shamrock who was popular because of WWE. beating Shamrock made tito more popular so popular infact he made his own clothe label ( his clothes are overpriced and really do suck)

Have ta help ya again on this one.....But..this sounds like Tito gaining cross over appeal to (ugh) pro-wrestling fans. Nor does your above explanation fit what's known in wrestling as "putting over" according to the "time honored tradition". (....again see Ric Flair vs. Harley Race, Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior....Brett Hart vs. Shawn Micheals)
Ortiz, at the time, was the UFC premier poster boy. He was already known by N. American MMA fans by the time he fought Shamrock the first time PLUS he was champ.
Their feud had been brewing during Shamrock's stint in the now defunct WWF where he made famous his "World's Most Dangerous Man" moniker.

Rewatch the fight if you think its a bad ref stop. Gracie is getting his ass beat and gives his back to Hughes, then gets hit like 10 times squarely in the head by Hughes. That fight was a joke. As far as the topic is concerned, I agree. Dana White tries to make the 'popular' fighters of the UFC seem better than they really are (hence the fact Hughes is fighting Chris Lytle instead of someone who is capable of beating him).

If you are so tired of it, either shut up about it, or don't watch. The rest of us will continue to enjoy watching

Couture has a better chance against Sylvia than Royce did against Hughes or Shamrock did against Ortiz. Which is still pretty shit. Besides, Couture showed everyone that he hasn't gotten worse with age. Which is more that can be said for Kenny
