This would be a more exciting fight. Carwin likes to stand and fight and thats what would make it a more interesting fight. Toney would possibly win. He would easily counter over Carwin's lazy jab, and he would easily counter Carwin's predictable right hand and if Carwin threw that uppercut the way he threw it against Lesnar, he would be ko'd.
I just think its a more interesting fight than Couture since Couture will probably just take Toney to the ground immediately. Couture may win, but it won't be very entertaining.
Well, you can probably put this one in the UFC suggestion box, but considering that Carwin just fought and the Couture/Toney fight is already signed to happen, you probably won't get to see Toney fight Carwin in his UFC debut.

Then for the main event they can put in a goat against a hungry Lion. That fight should be equally competitive. Carwin would give Toney the beating of his life.
You think Carwins so good because u see him ko opp. but these opp get ko'd because they don't know how to deal with basic boxing skills, the jab and then the right hand that follows. Toney can easily deal with that.
I would rather see James Toney vs James McSweeney or James Toney vs Ryan Bader. Toney versus someone who isn't a veteran of the game who would prefer to stand with him.
I think there is a point he was put agianst Couture and no one else. It is because Couture wont stand with Toney but simply take him down and show him that MMA is not a joke and they can fight in a different form. Couture will then follow with some bad ass ground and pound.

If you're talking boxing only, Toney would destroy Carwin and make it look easy. Ditto for any top level boxer vs any top level MMA fighter. It's what they do 24/7 and are damn good at it. You could take Vitali Klitschko and line up the top 10 HW MMA fighters and VK would KO all of them, one after the other.
Allow takedowns and Lesnar could likewise beat down the top 10 boxing heavies within a single night.
Why would the UFC set Toney up with somebody who wants to strike? Makes no sense. They want to see him a crushed, humiliated puddle of shiny goo spread out on the canvas.
Dana clearly said in the post fight conference that they want to make an example of Toney. He has more chance of winning against Carwin than he does against Couture is what I think.
Why would they get someone to stand and bang with a former world champion boxer when they just want to get his name on the card to sell PPV's and then be done with him?
They matched him up with Couture for a reason. Randy is going to clinch up with Toney, push him to the fence, get the trip, go straight to side control and then pound on his face for 30 seconds before Toney is tapping to strikes. That will be Toney's first and last involvement in MMA and I will enjoy watching him getting beaten up.
Do you guys honestly think Carwin isn't capable of changing his game plan? If he was matched up with Toney The Tool his camp would have him go to the ground then smash him. Most people act like Carwin has no wrestling. You just never get to see it, because he likes dropping people. He would clinch with the tool and slam him. Besides Carwin vs The Tool is a waist of top UFC hvy talent. Feed him to Randy, Randy's a legend. But lets be honest Randy's probably not going after the HVY title anytime soon. So let Randy have some fun with him. Carwin just kicked the shit out of "the best heavyweight in the world", Carwin lost the fight by himself.
LOL...Carwin wouldn't stand with Toney. He's a NCAA Div II wrestling champion.
Carwin would do exactly what Randy is going to do...take Toney's a$$ down at will and beat on his face.
The only difference is I don't think Carwin would stop GnPing where I suspect Randy is going to go for the choke and try to make Toney tap.
