MMABay can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that a middleweight bout between Wolfslair MMA Academy star, Michael Bisping and former light heavyweight champion, Vitor Belfort has become a real possibility to headline UFC 120 on October 16th following results in Las Vegas this weekend.

The promotion had been in favour of a fight between the Brit and Japanese superstar, Yoshihiro Akiyama at the event in London, England, but those plans have been scrapped after Chris Leben upset the applecart at UFC 116.

A source close to the situation revealed earlier today that the UFC are now in favour of matching Bisping up with Vitor Belfort, a fighter who hasn’t seen action since he knocked out another former champion, Rich Franklin in September. It was also revealed that verbal agreements have been obtained from at least one fighter.

Bisping was last seen in action in May when he defeated tough-as-nails middleweight, Dan Miller over three rounds at UFC 114. Prior to that he’d lost a close decision to Brazilian legend, Wanderlei Silva in February at UFC 110. Stay tuned to MMABay for further updates on this as we get it.

So Belfort goes from garanteed title shot to possibly having to fight Michael Bisping? seems a bit of a step down in opposition to me.

As much as i love Bisping, i can only see this ending badly for him if this happens.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Also, can the Uk not get some non British fights for a change? Bisping as a headliner is a joke, come on...sort it out!!!

MMABay? Not going to believe this until it's confirmed by a reputable source TBH.

MMABAY is moronic. But incase they are correct...

God damnit. Belfort deserves far better than Bisping. Lay off or not. Bisping should be main card yes, but not main event. Not even co-main.

Rubbish main event.

The question mark doesn't sit on Bisping maineventing an event in England - it's the fact that he's taking on Vitor Belfort ... Vitor is a couple knotches above Bisping, and honestly guys - this guy is going to **** Bisping in his backyard, sorry >.<

This would be an interesting fight to watch IMO. Bisping looked very good in his last fight and seems to be improving, whereas Belfort needs to have a good test since he is coming off such a big layoff from injury. If Belfort wins he should get the title shot and if Bisping wins he should get one more fight and then a title shot.

Steady on chaps. Its not like there's a wealth of MW's of good enough quality to keep Belfort busy. He has to fight somebody. Hes also one of the only fights left for Silva at MW. Bisping likes to fight. I dont see the problem. If anything the fight might be quite good.

Besides, where the feck is Marquart?

Fighting Paul Harris at 118 apparently. I was hoping he'd get the first go at Jake Shields.

It's interesting to hear that this is being considered, though I'd rather see Bisping/Belcher. I dunno: I feel kind of bad for Belfort. Get sidelined and miss your title opportunity only to come back from a long lay off against a tough guy. Ah well - No easy fights in the UFC.

I do think if they fight Bisping will try to work his wrestling. In the end though, I see Bisping getting KO'ed by Belfort's faster hands.

I'm starting to think thats the point. Bisping might be on an amazing fight deal with the UFC. In the meantime the UK has developed far more interesting fighters. It has no real need to protect Bisping any more. Maybe his purse is contractually tied to wins and losses. We all know he got paid an obscene amount to beat up Miller. An amount that made no sense. Well, maybe it's time to call in that paycheck.

I like the way Bisping fights. Its entertaining and pacy. But, I care not if he wins or loses.

I really am not a fan of Bisping (shock horror as i am English). I dont know why, i just dont like him. I will however be at this event, and it would be nice to see Vitor live in action!

Still, i really do fear would Belfort would do to him. It certainly will not end well for Bisping, and as much as i dislike him i wouldnt relish seeing him get Hendo'd again, which is a very plausible outcome of this fight.

Belfort is better in every way.

I wanna see this fight. Not because it would be good fight or something, but because I wanna see the fastest hands in mma put the loudest mouth in mma to rest by a brutal flash KO in round 1. ^^

As much as Bisping has proven to be average...and many have caught on to that fact...I still feel many overate the guy.

Go look at his wins. They are pathetic and full of guys who have been cut from the UFC. What has he proven, to even be main card worthy? (take his name, and fact he is British out of the thing, and go by what he has done)

To me he is not better than 15th or so in a division that is the weakest of all in the UFC. Guy should be on prelims, but I understand he sells. Sad that his name alone gets him some main/co type fights.

I am not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, I really don't see Bisping winnning this fight. Yeah, he did well against Hendo up until he was KO'd, and he did decent against Wanderlei and he picked apart Leben and he outstruck Dan Miller, but none of them have the striking that Vitor has. Bisping is only successful when he is sharper and faster than his opponent. He isn't going to be sharper or faster than Vitor at all.

I doubt they would give Bisping a fight he could easy get KTFO in one of his homecoming fights, not that I'd be against seeing it.

Who knows, maybe he wants to fight someone who is a real threat and prove he won't get KTFO again.

Risky for Belfort if this fight did happen and he lost a tricky decision, there goes his title shot.
