Hey guys,

If you haven't seen this already - prepare to realise what a douche James Toney really is. Sounds really ignorant, arrogant and I hope Randy wrecks this guy. Props to Ariel though, what a legend - didn't back down at all and acted like a true professional. To me, Ariel Helwani is the greatest MMA interviewer/journalist in the game ;)

If someone could embed this that'd be much appreciated =)

Enjoy.

I used to find Toney funny, and I thought he really wanted to prove himself as an MMA fighter. Now, I find him more disrepectful than funny. One can be both respectful and funny -- Toney was like that with Couture, but not anymore.

I've come to the conclusion that he's just doing this for money. He talks more about us paying PPV than he does about his training.

K, I have enjoyed watching Toney box in the past but you guys are giving him way too much credit for his knockout power.
He was not Mike Tyson, ever. The last meaningful knockout that he has his record is back in October of 2003. That's nearly 7 years since he knocked out a guy that was boxing with him. Randy isn't going to stand and trade with Toney, he is going to either take him down or put him up against the cage. This could be ugly but will mildy support the boxer vs mma wrestler idea.

Also very true. He was a great boxer because he was so slick, not because of his power. However, the reason I'm giving him a lot of credit for power is because of the 4oz. gloves. Toney also probably does punch harder than most of the guys in the heavyweight division, not Carwin, Brock, or Dos Santos but he's definitely got some power. So the way I see it is 'some good power + small gloves = possible bad news'.

Oh and just for the record if anyone is thinking 'this guys an idiot Brock's stand up isn't good at all' I'm just referring to his power. His punching form might not be that great, but the guy has power. Anyone who's going to hit you and send you rolling backwards and break your orbital, all with one punch, definitely has power.

lmao, that may be the best interview with a fighter ive seen. Brilliant. I can understand some of Toneys points too. About the whole hall of fame thing which is just ridiculous really. If dana came out and started calling mma fighters being better than boxers, i give Toney mad respect for wanting to come to mma and fight the best, hes simply representing his sport. mma fighters arnt better than boxers, boxers arnt better than mma fighters, they are two different sports.

I thought it was funny how he said Dana got all nervous when Toney challenged Lidell, its funny because i bet he actually was. Lidell would shoot for the take down immediatley though. They should of given Toney Anderson Silva. Now that would make for a very interesting fight imo.

As for Ariel, being honest, i absolutely can not stand that weasel. Hes very patronising, stuck up and very arrogant. I really would love it if a fighter straight up hit him on his beak nose and KO'd him. I hate the way he patronises fighters and tries to use his intelligence to make other fighters look dumb, he really gets under my skin.

I agree, especially with the apart of someone breaking his nose

I don't mind Ariel. He's one of the few interviewers that actually asks decent questions. And for that I'll watch the whole thing whenever one of his interviews comes up.

He can be a bit condescending and smart, but I think it's meant to be done in a humerous jokey way. That's how it comes across to me.

His comment about 'do you practise your moves on that' when Toney was showing the Randy *ACTION FIGURE* cracked me up.

obviously, since his style is greco roman. after the takedown I could see him finishing with GnP or an RNC. Not that Randy is particularly good at finishing, but Toney is likely to be the weakest fighter Randy has faced on the ground since... well, ever.

UFC 118's James Toney plans to KO Randy Couture, defend boxing titles shortly after
by John Morgan on Jul 06, 2010 at 10:05 am ET

Heavyweight boxing champion James Toney (72-6-3 Boxing, 0-0 MMA) wants you to know that he's taking his taking his forthcoming mixed martial arts debut against Randy Couture very seriously.

But that doesn't mean the 41 year old is turning his back on the sport that made him a star.

"I'm doing both (boxing and MMA)," Toney told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) at a recent media session promoting UFC 118. "I'm a two-sport athlete. After I fight Couture on Aug. 28, I'm going to defend my (boxing) title against somebody in October or November."

After a well-documented courting period with the UFC, Toney will make his debut for the promotion at UFC 118 in Boston in the night's co-main event. Toney has openly admitted he welcomes the "boxing versus MMA" angle of the matchup, and he's happy to represent the sport in which he's been competing professionally since 1988.

"This is fighting," Toney said. "I can box. Ya'll say Randy Couture does 'dirty boxing,' whatever the [expletive] that means, and he's a wrestler. Hey, this is war for me – this guy, who ya'll claim is the greatest MMA fighter to put gloves on.

"[Boxers] are the superior strikers. ... I look at this as a way to let everybody know that boxing reigns supreme."

Many MMA observers, including UFC president Dana White, have predicted a short night for Toney. "Lights Out" laughs at the idea he might be easily dispatched.

"Why should I be scared of an MMA fighter?" Toney asked. "What's different? MMA ain't no different than boxing. Boxing is much tougher because you're in there constantly punching and pounding. Right here, you've got Randy Couture who's going to be scared and constantly try to hug me like a little girl, and I'm going to make him pay for that.

"Everybody knows that if you're going to stand with me, one mistake and that's your ass. Did ya'll tell Randy Couture that I'm wearing small gloves now? Did you tell him that? What do you think is going through his head right now? 'I need to stay the [expletive] away from his hands.' That's what he's thinking. Every night, he's going to bed thinking, 'What if I get hit?'"

Win or lose, Toney said he plans on defending his IBA heavyweight title shortly after, though he has yet to sign an official contract. Toney said he hopes for a fight with WBO heavyweight champion David Haye.

"[Haye] ran his mouth about me and said I'm crazy, I'm going to get destroyed and choked out and all that," Toney said. "I don't mess with computers, but you get on computers and get online, you become a cyber gangster. That's what David Haye is. The sisters are, too – the Klitschkos."

Toney said he hopes to continue to bounce back and forth between boxing and MMA for the next four years and cement his place in history.

"I want to do this and boxing until age 45, then I'm done," Toney said. "I would have accomplished everything, and everybody would know that I'm the greatest fighter to ever put on gloves. That's my goal.

"It's going to set a standard – the gold standard. I've got a high standard."

Las Vegas oddsmakers have already installed Toney as an underdog of Fabricio Werdum proportions. Of course, if "Vai Cavalo" could overcome Fedor Emelianenko, could Toney shock Couture?

"They're trying to set me up to fail," Toney said. "That's why they're throwing Randy Couture at me. I've been set up to fail my entire life, so it's nothing new to me. I'm like, 'Good. Keep talking.'

"If Randy Couture takes me to the ground, I will knock him out. Ya'll ain't never seen nobody get knocked out from the floor, right? Ribs will be broken. I'm very comfortable from the floor."

And, Toney says, fans of both boxing and MMA better get used to seeing his face.

"If I do something, I'm all in," Toney said. "I'm not going to half do myself and do one fight – win or lose.

"I'm in this for the longrun. I'm serious. I'm not playing with people."

So, I was curious as to whether Toney was only signed for one fight, because Dana has never allowed someone to fight for the UFC, and continue doing their own thing.

UFC.com said:
So later this year, UFC President Dana White is prepared to give Toney his shot, signing the boxing superstar to a multi-fight contract this week to compete in the UFC.

Are you saying that Dana signed Toney, and allowed him to continue Boxing, but wouldn't sign Fedor and allow him to continue *****? Please, someone tell me it ain't so.

That is different tho, Fedor is a major figure in MMA u know he ***** would take up his time for major ufc fights. As in James Toney if Dana could he would have done a 1 fight deal. But if TOney pulls off a miracle( which i think he will) Dana has to protect his ass. He can;t let toney be a free agent after knocking out Randy, he has to bring him back. Imagine the PR nightmare if toney beats Randy his contract expires and he is free to go back to boxing and open his mouth.

This interview is absolutely HILARIOUS. I loved every second. Thank you Ariel and Mr. Toney. I can't WAIT for that fight. Don't pretend you all won't be watching, whether it's a freakshow or not. I expect Toney to be taken down and beaten up for awhile before it's stopped, but there is that element of chance as in any fight.

I'm an MMA fan first, Boxing second, but don't pretend I wouldn't be jumping up and down if Toney actually knocked Randy out. On one hand my favorite sport just got humiliated on worldwide tv, on the other it sure was entertaining.

I don't see it happening, but know it's possible.

BRING ON THE FIGHT!
