I am still scratching my head as to why they even bothered to make a Hughes vs. Lytle match.
Hughes gains absolutely nothing for his fight against Lytle. How can Lytle act as a substitute to prepare for his rubber match St. Pierre? St. Pierre is on a whole different level than Lytle, this fight is meaningless for Hughes.
The only possible thing Hughes gains by fighting Lytle is self confidence (if he wins), which did sh*t for him during their rematch. I am not betting that Lytle will win, but he is hungry and he has a puncher's chance. No matter what, this is a win-win situation for Lytle.
It would have been better if Hughes had decided to fight against Parisyan. That would be a much closer fight and get Hughes ready for St. Pierre. And if he can't even beat Parisyan, that will just tell him that he is not ready for St. Pierre.
