is this some kinda sick joke?!?!?! i like melvin he has great stand up and is very explosive but at the same time he is very overrated and has a shitty ground game its just because of how entertaining he is that people rate him so highly i dont even see half the respect he gets given to joe daddy stevenson who not only won the show which he couldnt beat tougher fighters at LW and is probably alot closer to title contention like honestly some times its just ridculous how highly some think of him ive seen people on this forum compare him to Gomi i mean YOU MUST BE SHITING ME

Wow Im sorry but you are a ****ing idiot. Whose to say some of the people your referring to aren't black themselves? I mean what you just said is absolutly ridiculous. Its probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on this site. Ok tell me who has Melvin beat to make him any sort of contender. The answere of course is no one. He hasnt beaten one good fighter in the UFC period. It has nothing to do with race.

melvin out of ufc 67

Melvin Guillard has been forced to withdraw from a fight against Ohioan Dustin Hazelett scheduled for Feb. 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guillard, a rising lightweight, suffered an apparent hand injury that will prevent him from competing at UFC 67. ...

that sucks

I hope they can get another lightweight to fill in his spot.

But
Sherk-Isn't going to be fighting a no name guy on short notice and is actually out of action until the summer

Fisher-Fighting a week before

Franca-Fighting a week before

Florian & stevenson have planned bouts on upcoming cards. Hominick I don't even think is still in the UFC. Joe Lauzon is on TUF 5.

I think they should just scrap the fight or get a underground Lightweight guy.

Wow, you guys are an angry bunch. And a Mod is attacking me too? Wow, seriously guys. You cannot deny the talent Melvin has. He is an extremely explosive striker with terrific speed. Obviously, his game needs a lot of work and he is more of a boxer trying to adapt, but the potential is there for him to be a really good fighter.

Why are you guys so aggitated by Melvin & the people who support him or see talent in him? Just because he hasn't beat anyone? Well, of course he hasn't as he is a relative baby in terms of MMA, and has big holes against good ground fighters, but I fail to see how that leads to such repulsive responses to my comments.

Please explain it to me rationally, how you can act that way when I just said it is obvious many people don't like him b/c he's black and talented?

People don't give Joe that respect because he is a roided up midget wrestler, and it is apparent that is not what the general public wants to see. People want to see people finished and Guillard has the ability to do that with gusto. Joe does too, but the fact is he just isn't as exciting.

DeLarge, your comments about the intellect of his fanbase only serve to show how truly pseudo-intellectual you are. I appreciate an intelligent fight, see Herring v Big Nog, but the fact is Melvin is an exciting fighter. How is it that this makes me a mental midget? I also like Fedor, Liddell, and Gomi is one of my favorites. Everyone likes these guys because they are exciting fighters, and Melvin is too, and at some point they had not "beaten anyone" either.

Of course I bring in the race card because I didn't see anyone hating on Franklin when he hadn't "beaten anyone" (yeah he beat Tanner, lol, umm yeah and?) despite being the champ, and he ended up getting his ass whooped by Silva. The same thing may happen to Melvin, but I think the sky is the limit for him if he is willing to adjust & learn.

Guida vs Thomas, Guida vs Thomas, Guida vs Thomas.....

I like Melvin, and I understand why people dig him. He's explosive, and isn't boring. Throw in the fact that he's charismatic, and you have a fun fighter. I mean, his KO of Davis(Who sucks, but the KO was cool) is reason enough to dig the guy. He has holes in his game, but he's young enough to cover them.
