Criss Angel attempts to get inside the head of UFC star Georges St-Pierre and read the fighter's mind on 'Criss Angel: Mindfreak' (Wed, 10PM ET on A&E).
St-Pierre thumbs through a book and randomly chooses a word. Then, Angel stares intently at the fighter and correctly guesses it.
How does he do it? Angel possibly gives away the secret when he explains that people often choose words they associate with themselves. Psychology or magic? Watch the clip and be the judge.
I love how he builds up the word guessing and then finally says it. But I have no idea how he does it, if it's not fake. Psychology is one thing, and GSP really could've chosen the word in the book because he's a fighter and he relates to it subconsciously, but to be honest, you could very well punch some one in the face, in the stomach, you could even break an arm. It's really amazing, if, again, it's not fake.
It's not just magic tricks. A main component of that type of encounter between criss and GSP involved NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming which is a very controversial take on studying the relationship between beahviour, emotions and influencing thought.
Darren brown is famous for combining NLP, camera work, staged acting, psychology and diversion techniques to keep the audience guessing (what is real and what isn't). Watch the following where NLP is used (its 7 minutes but AWESOME) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=befugtgikMg
Being a therapist I do pick up on the subtle things. When you watch notice he says "You picture having a BM Car or X box" and then postulate how that formulates to the "gift."
Wow whats with all the Criss Angel hate on this thread?? The dude is incredible and you have to respect this trick, its a form of mentalism. FYI, Angel was voted as the BEST MAGICIAN OF THE CENTURY by his fellow peers so show some respect!
"Each of the four books has 100 pages, but every page is the same.
The word mouth is the most common word on each page, starts in several paragraphs, and is printed in slightly bolder type than any other word, yet not obviously so. "
apart from all that fake stuff Angel is doing, i believe that he could do that. Many other artist do the same though.
Best things of him are these staged events were he buys everyone and he thinks you will believe that shit
"OH I CAN`T BELIEVE IT, THE ELEPHANT DISAPPEARED!!!"
These guys are skilled entertainers, whatever smoke and mirrors.
Somewhat off topic:
The training David Blaine did holding his breath was real - the man physiologically transformed his entire body and lungs and he probably increased his life expectancy by a good 5 years. The only 'magic' there was saying he was going to do something and doing it, all hard work and ridiculous mental toughness - no smoke and mirrors. He pushed himself to a thershold and beyond, didn't stop till he knew he could do it.
Athlete's Bradycardia or Athletic Heart Syndrome --- that's something you want. 'Abnormal' EKGs, ridiculous Spirometry levels, Blood Pressure, Blood Gas metrics. Stuff you see from marathon runners or Deep Sea divers.. some NFL athletes.
This is what Shane Carwin needs to do, get with a sports doctor, learn, get to a peak level - go learn basic physiology, read a book or two. Brock already had him beat by switching his dietary lifestyle.
Reading Frank Mir and his wife's magazine, you kind of get a feeling of what some of these guys (like Silva or Rua) to get to the level they are. As big a part of becoming an elite fighter the actual learning and sparring and working out is, lot of this extra stuff is what makes ordinary fighters in to super fighters.
All props to Ice Man for living like a jack-ass and still staying on top - he was a natural and gifted fighter, but he could of been so much better if didn't do just training camps and lived like rock-star the rest of his time. Same goes for Rampage.
Unfortunately for them and all the other LHWs, Bones is knocking on the door and he seems be doing a lot of good things - now you have this massive physicially strong, genetically gifted, talented, fast, 23 y.o. on a destructive path to LHW championship.
I went to the Criss Angel show in Vegas in Feb and was a pretty cool show. Too many haters these days for stupid stuff. Seems like people will talk shit about anyone for no reason just because.
