Hermes Franca (18-5) will fight Sean Sherk (31-2-1) sometime in July for his UFC lightweight title, according to Sherdog.com.
This is something we already knew prior to the fight, but it seems as though UFC President Dana White is has confirmed the match up.
Here’s a snip:
Hermes Franca secured himself a lightweight title shot tonight, both by stopping Spencer Fisher and then pleading his case to UFC president Dana White.
A purple-haired Franca thrilled the hometown crowd (he is from Jupiter, Florida) last night, outstriking the striker with wild looping punches to earn a second round technical knockout.
It wasn’t the prettiest boxing performance — often putting his head down and flailing — but it worked for Franca.
From my seat in the balcony, it looked like Fisher (19-3) was one well-timed knee away from dropping Franca. But, it never happened.
For the record, Fisher just didn’t seem right last night. He appeared to be holding back and wasn’t as aggressive as in the past. Not sure if he had knee problems or if he just had an off night.
Whatever. He’ll be back, and so will Franca.
The Brazilian will have a decent amount of time to relax and prepare for Sherk, who is still recovering from rotator cuff surgery.
This will be a good fight. I wish Franca was about 8 years younger. He is one of the most well rounded fighters out there. But he is 32 now and he is just now getting to be really good. I don't know if he will be able to stop Sherk from taking him down, but there's always a chance of Hermes getting a submission from his back. He could also knock Sean out if he connected with one of those insanely crappy looking overhands.

I'll be really happy if this fight happens. After Hermes pulled the GSP and begged Dana "good to be White" for a title shot I was hoping he would get his wish. He deserves it. Of course I don't give him a very big chance to take Sherk.. Way too much power and ground control there. On the other hand he could catch Sean with one of those punches launched from Iowa. Sean has a great chin, but GSP proved it isn't indestructible. Sean Sherk by TKO 4th round.

Dunno about that article..I mean Spencer Fisher was so hyped up in his corner before the fight ready to unleash, i wouldnt make an excuse, he just got caught and Hermes has heavy hands. Hermes had good takedowns and i expected him to finish it on the ground though, if you didnt notice Spencer had one triangle choke attempt which got me a little nervous but Hermes pulled out before he could even get his legs around his neck.
Good performance by Franca and i thought when he pulled a Georges St. Pierre it was pretty cool. "Please give me a ****ing title shot PLEASE!" haha.
