So i thought about this for the last couple of minutes and I have come to the conclusion that it wouldn't make sense, but maybe I am missing something. I looked at the List of current champions and saw that both Championships have a Lightweight Champion, thats when I started thinking about it.
Advantages:
- Good exposure on PPV and people getting more interested in the WEC.
- Huge event that would probably make a lot of money and would be great for fightfans.
Disadvantages:
- One division would be without a champion. Any challenges for the title would have to be in either WEC or UFC.
- If the WEC champion looses it would not add to the reputation of the WEC.
Possible scenarios:
WEC Champion wins: Rematch under the WEC banner, getting them another PPV that people would tune in to.
UFC Champion wins: Rematch under UFC banner...back to square 1.
Possible solutions: Create a special Title that can only be won once. None of them looses their belt, but it determines who is better. This could be done once a year, would make people more interested in the WEC and make a huge event.
If this has been discussed before feel free to move to the MMA Newbie Section...after all I am still a N00b Would be glad to get your input on what I am missing (also from a fighting-politics standpoint)
