Yeah, something tells me that if Hughes actually wants another title shot he is going to have to beat Fitch to get it. Either that or someone else like Mike Swick or someone like that!

He'd never beat GSP, Fitch, Shields, Alves or Kos among others, so no.

His standup has not evolved with the sport, and he's getting old. Sure he can sub guys like Almeida but his striking against Serra and Gracie was embarrasing.

Yeah in order to get to a title shot, Hughes would need to get past one of the top four gatekeepers to the title before he actually faced GSP and they all are at their elite levels. While nothing is impossible it would be extremely difficult for Hughes to make his way to GSP!

i really dont see hughes being able to compete with the big 3 of alves, fitch and kos... all 3 guys are stronger and faster. Fith and Kos will def have the strength and grappling advantage, as crafty as hughes is i just dont see either of these two getting "caught" like almeida. Alves would be a nightmare on the feet for hughes too, as alves has much criper, more powerful strikes, especially kicks than anyone hughes has fought in this latter stage of his career... I wouldnt mind seeing hughes matched up with Dan hardy tho... If hardy wants another title shot he should have to show he can stop the dominant wrestler... But im hoping condit will pick up the W and hopefully get a shot at fitch if fitch doesnt get (his deserved) title shot...

NO. What is the one thing that Matt does everytime he fights? He stays on his feet far too long. If he went back to his wrestling roots then maybe he could get lucky enough for a title shot though

People that think he cant beat Alves Kos or Shields are very mistaken.

Even though Alves came in over weight, he owned Hughes in their fight. I think a lot of people still judge hughes on how bad he looked against Renzo. I don't know about Shields, because his striking is so poor, but Hughes can't beat Koscheck.

just line up the entire Gracie family and let Matt beat them down one by one.

Yea, you too Roger, i seen your weak striking, you make Hughes look like Manhoef.

I think Hughes can still compete at the upper-mid levels of the Welterweight division but his striking is awful and his speed has slowed considerably. That's just in part due to his age, but I still find it incredible that Hughes can still do well at 38 years old without having evolved too much. Makes you wonder what a Hughes with striking would be like. Scary.

too bad he wasn't just starting out now, I think in the right camp he'd be better than GSP at wrestling/clinch/groundgame and then it'd be really interesting.
