Terry Martin: A Strong Mother F*cker
I was watching Terry Martin's UFC debut against James Irvin, trying to work out how he matches up with Jorge Rivera when they meet at UFC 67. I know it's an undercard fight, but Martin has been a fun guy to watch and Jorge is a seasoned veteran, so my first thought is that it should be a good fight.
In round 1 of the Irvin fight it's pretty obvious that Martin is strong. He basically bulldozes Irvin into the cage and slams him to matt a couple of times. He's the shorter guy and so he chooses not to strike too openly with Irvin, but he's strong.
For those who don't know, Terry gets KO'd in the opening seconds of round 2 by a fantastic flying knee.
Terry is training currently with Andrei Arlovski and has dropped 20 pounds to fight at 185 for his fight with Rivera.
If Martin was a good fighter at 205, though he lost both of his UFC fights at that weight to very good opponents, he's going to be really strong at 185.
I know that for alot of people this is just another undercard matchup, but I really want to see this fight, because Martin is the kind of guy who is capable of being a force in the UFC at 185 pounds.

Terry is best known for the fight your talking about which was a flying knee KO. Terry won't ever be a great fighter. Will never have a title shot at any weight.

I picked Jorge, because he's the veteran and it appeared that anyone of standard quality has beaten Terry. My call - Jorge by submission or descision. The only way I see Terry winning is in the first and getting a KO by strikes.

Jorge is a great fighter, I have alot of respect for the guy, but this isn't a good matchup for him. When Jorge wins, he beats guys that he can power through, guys that he is stronger than. If he can't push his opponent around and just bowl him over like he did with Dewees, he's not going to finish. That's why of his 3 UFC wins, only one is a finish.
Terry Martin definitely isn't the greatest fighter in the world. He's definitely not on the level of some of the other guys that have beat Rivera (Franklin, Silva and Lee Murray), but he's a strong dude.
The point I'm trying to make is that Terry Martin is a strong guy at 205 and he's coming down to a more appropriate weight for him. A weight that I think he can make easily if he improves his cardio and loses a little bit of the weight he walks around with. I don't expect him to lose much power.
Also, Terry has two career losses, both to guys who are good UFC lightheavyweights. Lambert and Irvin are no jokes. Neither is Jorge, but he's a much smaller fighter and definitely lacks some of the muscle that a fighter like Lambert has.
I'm just saying, if this fight turns into an inside war where they are going toe to toe, Jorge isn't just going to walk right through Terry Martin.

Yeah, it wasn't bad. (The KO) Funny at the weigh in how the ring girls were looking away when he had to take his shorts off. Haha!

Yeah, he's a huge dude. He was cutting to get to 205 when he was fighting there, but I think he's lost a good amount of weight since then. Either way, he will be back and I'm looking forward to his next fight at 185.
