Wanna hear a story that really sucks? Here it is.

I've only been into MMA for about 2 years now (hard-core 2 years, though). Before I was a hard-core fan, I lived in Toronto and worked at the Electronics Boutique at Yorkdale Mall. One day, who should walk into the store I worked at, and was interested in the Gamecube?

Carlos Newton. Carlos-freakin'-Newton!

I only vaguely recognized him, mostly because one of the other till monkeys jogged my memory. I mentioned I recognized him then tried to sell him a Gamecube (I failed). A couple of weeks after that, my girlfriend and I were standing in line at the T & T Supermarket at the Promenade Mall in Thornhill, and there's Newton, standing in front of us in line. I whispered to my girlfriend about him but left it at that.

ARGH!

Understand that this was weeks - weeks! - after UFC 38 and the controversial Hughes / Newton title fight. I'd give anything to go back in time and trade places - I could ask him about the fight, get autographs, get pictures, do all the fanboy crap I'd pay money to do now.

Any of you have similar stories about UFC close encounters? I bet none of you have one as pathetic as mine.

You probably did the right thing by just leaving him alone. If somebody came up to me and started asking me questions about work while I was trying to do my shopping, my first thought would be "For the love of God, get the hell away from me. Can't you see I'm trying to do my shopping." But that's just me!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

That's bad man. Then again, I don't really care for Newton anyway so I wouldn't bother with him if I saw him.

I was talking about MMA at work when a lady I work with mentioned that she thought her daughters did gymnastics with the daughters of a fighter. I asked his name and she said "Mark Coleman? Have you ever heard of him?". What a cheeky monkey. Anyway, she had him sign a "Real Deal" poster for me. My boxing coach also helped Kevin Randleman learn some stand up. I keep waiting for him to show up at the gym one day.
