How bad is Anderson Silva's ground game?

I'm going to be honest with you, I have not seen too many Anderson Silva fights? So I really don't know how bad his ground game is. I mostly hear how bringing Silva on the ground is Lutter's only chance! Is his ground game bad enough for Lutter to capitalize? Or is this an old wives tale?

he trained with chute box accedemy before moving to the mauy tai dream team. As of late November 2006, he formed a new team called Black House (Casa Preta in Portugese) with Assuerio Silva, Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, and Carlos Barreto. He has very good ground skills. Vitor may not be the pheno, of late but he is very good at submission, as well as lyoto. He only has 2 submission loses submitting him will not be easy.

not bad, he has a black belt by the Noguiera brothers (the same guys from the Brazilian Top Team)...its just that in the fights that Anderson has lost, it was because of subs...

plus, Anderson has a clear advantage on the feet so Lutter has to rely on his ground game if he is to have any chance at winning...

Its not that Silva is bad on the ground its that Lutter is better. I think Lutter will win if he can get submission but i think Anderson will have already kneed his face in the other direction.

anderson is definitely gonna want to keep the fight on his feet. but his ground games are sufficient enough to avoid sub attempts by lutter.

People said the same thing about Sylvia vs. Monson, and look what happened there. I think that Silva's ground game is way underrated. And good luck trying to get inside Anderon's strikes and taking him down.

To be honest, it hink Lutter nailed it on the head. He said "Silva's wrestling is the weakest part of his game" and I think it's 100% true. Silva's BJJ is fine.

This is absolutely correct and I was about to say the same thing. It's not Anderson Silva's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Lutter's advantage on the ground is his superior wrestling. Lutter's going to be able to win the fight on the ground (If he can get it there) by powering into dominant positions, pushing Silva up against the fence and dropping bombs to open up a submission. I think Lutter already said he has a "Matt Hughes" style in mind for the fight, and I saw him practicing the crucible-style ground 'n'pound Matt uses tonight on the pre-fight show.

If the fight goes to the ground, Lutter isn't going to immediately take an arm like he did with Cote. Silva is a competent BJJ guy, so he'll know how to execute and defend submissions. It's all going to come back to the wrestling, and I think that if Lutter can get the fight to the ground, he'll get the win.

100 % correct. Anderson Silva's ground skills are actually quite good. His BJJ is quite good defensively and his "Spider Guard" makes him very hard to GnP. He's not going to submit you, but he will usually do a good job of surviving off his back. The one hole in his game is wrestling.

I like Anderson a lot...one of my top 10 favorite fighters...but I do really wish he would work on his English more. I don't mind a guy who doesn't know the language. But I certainly hope he works on it a lot. The things he
"says" would mean so much more if we HEAR them come out of his mouth. It will only make him more money and fame if he speaks English better.
