Video inside.

Jon Fitch has called on the UFC to allow him to fight the winner of Jake Shields v Martin Kampmann, in order to create an undisputed No. 1 contender in the welterweight division.

Shields and Kampmann go head-to-head in UFC 121's co-main event on Saturday, with the winner set to meet the victor of December's title clash between Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koscheck.

Fitch, who has won his last five fights, and 12 of his last 13 overall, has already stated that he would be 'p***** off' if Shields was to get a title shot off the back of one UFC victory. Shields arrives with a 14-fight winning streak, but Kampmann is not considered a top-three opponent by many MMA observers.

As a result Fitch, who also stated he would never fight Koscheck, believes it makes sense to allow him to fight the winner, so that he can prove to president Dana White that he deserves a second crack at the belt.

"I would like to fight the winner of that [Shields v Kampmann] fight," he told ESPN. "The next title shot is going to be four-to-six months after the Koscheck v GSP fight in December. That's a long time for the top guys not to be fighting.

"I myself like to stay busy, so I'd like to fight the winner of that fight. It makes a lot of sense, the fans get to see an extra fight, it's win-win."

Fitch predicts he would be fighting Shields if the UFC granted him his wish, insisting the newcomer will have too much for former middleweight Kampmann.

"I know Jake really well and trained with him for a long time, he's tough, he's legit. He's going to win that fight."
O. My. God.

This, with all the current talk of team-mates fighting each other is perfect. Perfect for proving my point.

Koscheck is fighting GSP for the BELT and Fitch says the above! What if Koscheck beats GSP you fecking idiot? How does the above apply then?? How do you fix the dogshit you and your buddy threw all over the WW division?

In other words, Fitch is completely dismissing Koschecks chances. In other words, Fitch and Koscheck CAN NOT be as close friends as they pretend they are... because the above is about the douchiest thing Fitch could say regards his "buddy".

So... enough of this shit NOW! This claim of not fighting team mates is simply lie to disguise the fact that one of them can easily beat the other. They both know it, but wont admit it. My money is on Fitch being able to beat Koscheck easily. Fitch doesn't want to humiliate his team mate... and Koscheck doesn't want to lose period.

I challenge anybody to listen to Fitchs quotes and tell me he is being respectful to his buddy?

FECKING BULLSHIT.

Fitch/Shields would be sick. The grappling techniques and transitions taking place would be crazy. There would be no chance for any lay and pray in that fight.

That fight would deliver.

I figure he's not going to get the winner of shields/kammpaman until long after the results of GSP vs Kos are available. If he sees that Kos wins the title, the fight with Shields/Kammpman is off basically.

I think this is really fair, although...I feel fitch deserves the shot without having to fight anyone, but am interested in seeing Shields vs GSP because it's a fresh match up.

Well it may not be respectful, but at least it's realistic. I remember seeing an interview with Fitch while he tried to explain how close the first fight was and how Kos would win the second GSP fight, and you could tell he didn't really have his heart in it. I'm sure he pats Kos on the back, and tells him how great he is, but I'm also sure deep down he knows Kos has very little chance to beat GSP.

He absolutely right about Sheilds-Kampmann though, Fitch should get the winner of that fight, and then a title shot if he wins. Hell he should get the next title shot regardless, but I'm sure they will give it to Shields when he beats Kampmann, because Dana hates Fitch and he isn't a fan favorite.

Why should he get the title shot regardless? Didnt he get completely destroyed by GSP. And Fitch hasn't shown any improvement in his game, he is still the same fighter from back then. He takes you down and tries to outgrapple you. What would he do differently this time around against GSP? At least Koscheck has shown some improvement. But come on, no need for Fitch-GSP 2. If Shields wins he should def. get the title shot. Fitch should just move to MW already.

This I agree with. Shields' grappling is top notch and IMO the biggest threat to GSP on the ground EVER.

However Shields just doesn't seem to me to have the stand up skills to beat GSP. When they fight (and its innevitable that they will eventually) I see GSP finally showcasing his stand up for an extended period for the first time in a while.

Anybody who makes exceptions on who they fight, shouldn't be making demands on who they should face, or how to establish a challenger.

In the event that Koscheck wins and Fitch beats Sheilds/Kampmann, by Fitch's own admission he wouldn't fight Koscheck, thus wasting everybody's time.

If you're not going to fight everybody just shut up.

Exactly. Even if Fitch was to beat the winner of Sheilds/Kampmann... and then move up to 185 to avoid Koscheck? (if he has the belt ) The UFC would have to take the winner of Shields/Kampmann and give them the next shot. AFTER they just lost to Fitch!? Nonsense.

Jesus, do these guys actually think these things through past 5 minutes?

I honestly think that Fitch and Kos are just trying to position themselves so that if one of them were to ever get the belt the other would be the top contender so Dana would have to throw a lot of money at them so the fans could 'see the fight they want to see'.

My reality is I see Kos as a good fighter but an ass and Fitch as a good one-dimensional fighter and boring as hell. I'll still pay to watch Kos fight but it sucks paying to watch Fitch dry-hump people with no threat of a finish.

Fitch could get cut from the UFC and I wouldn't care. I'd rather see an exciting loss from a good fighter (Hardy) than see a boring predictable win from Fitch.

Fitch has not gotten any better since he fought GSP. People try to use the second Fitch/Alves fight to show how far Fitch has come since then, but they need to go back and watch the first Fitch/Alves fight and get a little reality check. Fitch dominated Alves in pretty much the same fashion, except he actually finished him that time. Fitch just kinda has Thiago's number, kinda like Frankie Edgar with Bj, some guys just match up well. Fitch needs to actually show some kind of progress before he gets another shot. Koscheck has actually improved quite a bit since he lost to GSP. I dont think Fitch is a boring fighter, I just think he is the same fighter now that he was at UFC 100.
