so how exactly do you feel about Cro Cop...
not to change the subject overall it's just that basically what you said about Gonzoga is how I feel about Cro Cop.
About Gonzaga tho he was on the right path, going to a bigger MMA place. You cannot get better when YOU are the big name at the given gym. Only people better then you (or on your level) are going to truely push you and get you to improve.
The things he needs to improve on are not big things either, minor things mostly. But if he'd be happery out of MMA then he shouldn't fight just cus he happens to have the potental...
im gunna miss the man ape, i always liked him, if he would get cured of his Pennsyndrome and actually take guys down instead of wanting to trade punches all the time he would of been great
Totally didn't expect that! He is 1/4 in his last last 4 fights, but he fought JDS, Carwin and a very good prospect in Schaub!
I would have loved to see him in one more fight at least. Him vs Kongo or Yvel - Loser leaves town.
They've cut Gonzaga and not Yvel - i just on't get it!
Hopefully the UFC will sign some new HWs: too many cuts this year: Duffee, Buentello, Gonzaga.
They need some fresh blood!
I saw this coming, am surprised Tito and Yvel have not yet received there notice, and to be fair Gonzaga was the fighter I liked best out of the bunch.
But hopefully we will see him on the circuit at some random events like Shark fights, Impact FC etc, would be nice to see some of his BJJ hopefully someone will sign him up with a opponent he can actually take down, SF maybe even, he would get his ass handed to him there big time against there top tier but they have some good opponents for him like Arlovski, Lashley and Walker
Seems like he just refused to gameplan properly after the Cro Cop KO, like he thought he was suddenly a K-1 kickboxer or something, when in realty most of his success standing has come against sub-par strikers.
If only he had worked a little more on his wrestling and cardio, and used both to complement his grappling game, he'd probably have won a few more of his recent fights.
Always liked Gonzaga, but he fought like he was trying to prove that he was just as good at stand-up as he is at BJJ... Shame, should have fought to his strengths more :/
He was absolutely horrible to watch against Schaub, and just about ever fight since the Couture fight. The guy doesn't seem to enjoy fighting at all and more than likely pursued it as a carreer path because he was good at it instead of enjoyed it. When you have an athlete who doesn't enjoy what theyre doing, you're never, ever going to get the best out of them.
EDIT: I think he's done with MMA. The guy sounds relieved to have been cut.
Always thought that Gonzaga was gonna be great when he first came in. Big, strong, good jitz, and fairly athletic.
When I lost 20 bucks betting against Couture, I was shocked. Would never have thought he would be cut but like previous posts he doesn't sound like he wants to continue fighting. Hopefully he just needs a break and comes back focused and refreshed.
There are only so many good heavyweights out there. Good luck with it Gabe.
A lot of 3-5 year veterans of the UFC seemed to have given up on fighting. Maybe the UFC needs to work harder on keeping their employees happy. Otherwise we keep getting fights like at UFC 121.
Dont feel bad about it, not liking him is the correct course of action, just remember he is French and any guilt of disliking him will slowly fade away
