Should fans make the matches instead of Joe Silva?

Seeing some of the fights that are up ahead, I'm begganing to think that's what needs to happen. Take UFC 68 for example. It's grade A fighters vs The Cans. WTF? If fans were to vote who Matt Hughes should fight, I gaurentee that it wouldn't be Chris Lytle. Lytle wouldn't even come close but that's just my opinion. It seems the fights we want to happen will never happen because of sh*t like Hughes vs. Lytle, Lambert vs. Sobral, Anderson vs. Lutter, GSP vs. Serra, and Franklin vs. MacDonald. I mean if you were givin a choice would you honestly make something like these fights I just mentioned?

Not all the time, but maybe once or twice a year they could do an "All-Request PPV" where the fans could vote for a month on matches say 3 months ahead of time, then 2 months before the PPV the voting would cease and the matches would be announced to give the fighters time to prepare. Year round I don't think it would work, but once in a while I think it would turn out pretty well and could also be a marketable gimmick.

thats a pretty good idea, but i only think this would work in making those "super-matches". things like chuck vs tito. but for everday fights, i dont think it would be all that successful.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They could hold polls on the UFC website a few months ahead. I imagine IF they were to do that, they would say, for example, "Who do you want Babalu to fight next?". Then they'd have a list of fighters to choose from.

That'd be a great idea. Kind of sounds like what the WWE was doing with the Taboo Tuesday PPVs, except hopefully the UFC's polls won't be rigged.

I agree. If the fans picked all the matches then there would be nothing to look forward to because you could fit all the dream matches into 2 maybe 3 UFC's. After that then what???? However it does piss me off that Hughes is fighting Lytle instead of Diego. I mean come on. The guy made 8 title defenses b4 losing to Penn and then like another 4 or 5 (I dont remember the exact number) b4 losing it again. Its stupid for a dominant former champ like Hughes or Franklin to have to fight a "B" level fighter when they are still at the top of their respective divisions even though they were both dominated in their title losses. That kind of stuff pisses me off. But hey thats the business side of Dana.

Then we should have tag teams, And trainers throwing chairs in the ring during the fight. Maybe BJ Penn could come flying in off the top of the cage. STUPIDEST IDEA EVER.

All the match ups on 68 are good anyway except hughes VS Lytle. Very excited to see Couture come back. To see if Sylvia can knock out Couture. Franklin Vs Macdonald is also a good match up. Gives Franklin a decent test and if Macdonald somehow wins it catapults him into the stratosphere. Hughes Vs Lytle is going to be a First round sub for hughes with no real excitement except to see Hughes get back on track. This is a good card. Good Names. Probably some pretty heavy knockouts.

This could work, although it is a ripoff of WWE's Taboo Tuesday / Cyber Sunday.

Anyways..year round would definitely not work, we'd be over using the top fighters putting them through hell. Plus the average fighters and no names would never get a chance to work their way up, i know some of you dont enjoy seeing mid carders and show starters fight but they are the future of the UFC, if they never get chances UFC will eventually die, in my opinion anyways.

So overall, i think we should stick to watching from the crowd and television, the UFC knows what they are doing, although i still like the idea of once a year having us decide a card.

having fans vote for matches would be a revolutionary thing in sports. especially since MMA, and fighting in general is very much linked to "who the fans want to fight who". in football, you get what you get, and usually you always see the matchup you want. same with all other sports... but in MMA, we're always saying; "what if A fought B" or shit like that.

honestly, it would make MMA, and the UFC so much better because every PPV and every event would be what the majority of the fans wanted!!!

i'd love to hear some people's ideas of a down side to this... cause really, there aren't any logical objections to it!

i mean, if it was really up to the fans, you woulnd't get 2 or 3 of the same fight within 6 months. fans want to see variety, not every fighter having a trilogy of matches with every other fighter, all the time... plus, it would get rid of the whole "can" concept and inflated record claims. sure, you'd need to have bookers make fights for new guys. but have new guys fight new guys and ear the spot to get voted into a fight with an established fighter!

They also have to think of the fighters safety. The fights tend to be(and i mean tend to be) for two fighters who are ready for each other. Many fans would make ridiculous matches for the expense of a laugh and may get someone seriously injured. It's a good idea but it could b a dangerous one
how would fans do this? there would obviously be a system so you can't have a super HW against a lightweight... i mean, that's just freakin obvious...

it wouldn't be a "ripoff". WWE is pro-wrestling... who gives a crap about that, or what they do. but to have a ligitimate sport--which MMA is no doubt now one--would revolutionize sports and bring MMA to a level no other sport has ever been!

No no man I wasn't meaning different weight classes I was meaning say some new kid comes throught the ranks and is relatively popular fans would want him to fight an opponent who he wasn't ready for. I speaking theoretical here but the matches are made based on what will make a good match. Everyone would love to see cro cop smash some TUF guy they didn't like and they have to think of the safety of the fighter if he isn't ready for him? You know what I mean?

I think this could work for maybe title fights, giving fans who they think deserve a shot and still allowing the up-and-comers to get themselves known through the organisations choice. That way the organisation decides who's title will be on the line, giving a list of contenders. That way they couldn't have a Poster Boy get to the top because the fans wouldn't allow the fight to happen, rendering the whole task pointless. Real fans want to see good even fights. I think the majority of people who would vote would be educated in MMA (to some degree) so all these things would be taken into account, like if they're ready or would it be a good match up. I just don't know how they could do it without it being exploited by the muppets that would sit and vote over and over and over so they get their choice. If they could find a way then it would be amazing. Just like the internet has done for so many other things, it could revolutionize sport in the same way, allowing the consumer to have a say.

If you wan't MMA to go mainstream this would be the stupidest idea ever. Do you see the NFL letting fans pick teams for the SuperBowl???? Or how about the NBA??? NHL???
MLB??? Or hell even boxing????

It would just give places like ESPN and other major networks and broadcasters more reason to trun thier noses up at MMA. Again stupidest idea ever.

Maybe if you had fans vote like they do for the all star games. But those are exhibitions. Some maybe you could vote to see some half assed exhibition match.
