Not to mention Jake Shields is a very legitimate threat to that title holder.

YES I WOULD PREFER THIS!

I would prefer to see this, yes.

It would be a great set up to a title shot for Shields or Penn.

Poor Fitch. I like Fitch, but he will have another chance we all know that.

Shields needs to impress a little more than he has (in my fantasy world where i run things). But, that could be my lone opinion, the UFC will stick to their word, and I will have to cry a little bit later.

i appreciate the ground game like wrestling and bjj but when people are actually putting in work on the ground and not just hugging for the W like rashad for example. I would like to see bj penn utilize his bjj skills in this fight like he did for the first matt hughes.

How is this any different from Fitch? They are virtually the same fighter. They are both big, athletic fighters, with poor striking, who win by grinding opponents down with better cardio and top control. It doesn't matter which one he fights, its the same fight.

Shields has far better BJJ than Fitch.

Fitch is better on the feet (even though his not great, he ain't as bad as Jake).

Don't care to see BJ V Shields. Rather see BJ try take Fitch and allow GSP a new opponent. If he fought Kos followed by Fitch I would loose complete interest in the Welter title.

Fitch needed a bigger fight then Ellenberger , but Penn is a terrible fight , this is an EASY WIN for Fitch and just a marque name.

I would rather see

Penn vs Hardy or Condit - great fights

Fitch Vs Shields for the title

I hate to say it but he isnt , GSP is by far the better athlete and the only area that Jake excels in compared to GSP is JJ but what goods JJ if you are constantly on your back being nullified , not to mention GSP could counter wrestle and keep it standing and annihilate Jake who has awful striking , GSP has a freak shoot in and the only way anyone is going to beat him is out wrestle which imo is the least likely because he is so good or Serra him.

Since when has being on your back made JJ void?

First off i think you missed the point being on your back most JJ guy will tell you is their least favourite position secondly if you have watched MMA for awhile guys are so well equipped now they know how to defend on top so the days of Big Nog getting amazing subs off his back are gone or at least going to be uncommon now. Thirdly Jake's submissions are usually chokes and Rear naked ones , so what im saying is he needs to be on top to get a submission usually he doesn't throw triangles up , he has one or two arm bars and a guillotine but GSP is not going to make mistakes like that now he is too well rounded.

Finally if you watch GSP he uses a wrestling shoot to get you down and then once on top used his JJ to keep top control so a submission from Jake off the bottom is the least likely out come.

so to answer your question JJ is not void off your back but its becoming more so with ever improving training and knowledge of the art and Jake will be void off his back that i can guarantee.

If Penn-Shields ever does go down, let it happen at the Cow Palace.

Now that the UFC has done Oakland (UFC 117), it's time for the UFC to do San Francisco.
