Nick Osipczak cut from UFC

24/11/10 - Osipczak released; roster-cutting looks set to become more aggressive

Nick Ospiczak has been released from his UFC contract after suffering three consecutive defeats. The latest was a decision loss to Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig at UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany earlier this month.

Osipczak won the first round and looked to have the fight in the bag but then his workrate fell off considerably in the second and almost stopped entirely in the third.

It was speculated that he might have broken a hand but that was not the case; today a source close to the situation said several hard body shots from Ludwig were what had taken the wind from Ospiczak’s sails.

Osipczak, who entered the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter reality show, leaves the organisation with a 2-3 record. His departure from the organisation was inevitable once he went 0-3 for three.

His last three fights have all ended in decision losses, two of them split and one unanimous. Prior to that he scored a TKO win over Matt Riddle and a submission win over Frank Lester.

Peter Sobotta was also released from the UFC after earning his third loss in a row at UFC 122, along with Goran Reljic and Seth Petruzelli.

With the UFC recently creating two new weight divisions after absorbing the WEC and liking to keep no more than around 200 fighters under contract at any one time, roster-cutting is likely to become even more aggressive and competition for places will increase.

Roster-cutting is necessary for several reasons, not least because as long as a fighter is under contract the UFC is obliged to provide a certain amount of fights within a given period; by releasing losing fighters they discharge themselves of that obligation and at the same time make space for new fighters who may prove to be contenders.

Another harsh cut IMO. Slick Nick is 2-3 in the UFC and 2 of his losses were very very bad judges decisions. He should have won the Ludwig fight and definitely should have got the decision against Rick Story.
The blood is on the hands of the judges over this cut!

I dont know much about this guy but he got cut do to lack of fighting IMO... If he hurt so bad that he couldn't throw punches he should have quit... I saw this again in the Chute Box dude who fought last weekend. I dont remember his name of the top of my head but it's like he stopped fighting for whatever reason. I think he should've lost. To bad too cause I saw he had the potential to easily finish that fight!

Edit...Not hating, cause I saw the skills in him. Just not an entertaining fight.

A weird comparison, considering Osipczak was hurt while Falqao was obviously fighting a safe fight that he could have finished. Falqao looks like a destroyer with a bunch of first round finishes and it was his UFC debut which is probably why they kept him.

Not a strange cut, i am just surprised it took them 2 weeks to cut him.
Nick has potential, but needs to work moore on his strength and cardio.
I als6 think this cut has something to do with the merger and the fact that the LW div will get some new fighters annyway, so they need to make some room for the WEC fighters.

Hope Nick will end up in SF, and put some great fights for the fans.

Im quite disapointed, but cant say i didnt see it coming. I guess its more evident than ever now that fighters really shouldnt leave the outcome of a fight in the judges hand. Hopefully he will go away, win a few fights quite impressively and find his way back to the UFC next year sometime. Good luck Nick.

He had that fight finished, if the timekeeper hadn't screwed him over you'd be on the hype train.

Gutted for Nick, fingers crossed he gets a chance in one of the lesser US organisations, coming back to the UK circuit is going to be too much of a step down.
