Dustin Poirier Steps In To Face Josh Grispi at UFC 125
Quote:
Less than 24 hours after the news broke that new UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo had to back out of UFC 125 with a back injury, matchmaker Joe Silva has already patched the hole in the fight card.
Aldo’s proposed opponent, Josh Grispi, will remain on the UFC 125 fight card, but will instead face Dustin Poirier. Heavy.com broke the news both on Aldo’s withdrawal and Poirier’s selection as his replacement. MMAWeekly.com independently confirmed both.
The UFC was counting on Aldo vs. Grispi as the co-main event of UFC 125 on Jan. 1 to make a big splash out of the recent merger of the WEC into the UFC. Aldo, however, suffered a compacted vertebrae, causing tingling in both arms, according to ESPN reporter Josh Gross’ via his Twitter account.
Grispi (14-1) is on a 10-fight winning streak, including all four of his fights for World Extreme Cagefighting. He had waited patiently for a shot at the title, but now he’ll have to wait a little long and get past Poirier to remain in the top spot.
Poirier has only one loss on his record as well versus eight victories. He lost his WEC debut against Urijah Faber training partner Danny Castillo, but bounced back at WEC 52 in November with a first-round TKO of Zack Micklewright.
UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar makes the latest defense of his title against Gray Maynard in the UFC 125 main event.

Dustin Poirier
Never heard of him. He has the same last name as me which is pretty rare... so I like him.
Too bad Aldo will win via murder.

Well, these are the type of fights you'll get from WEC sometimes, so welcome them to the UFC.

The plus side is we get to see two new featherweights make a name in the ufc. The downside is obvious

Man its too bad Aldo is injured. I was really looking forward to see him take on Grispi!
I've been keeping my eye on "The Fluke" for a few years now and knew he had potential. The kid's got so much talent. I hope he doesn't screw it up and lose to this no name.

Oh well... injuries happen.
I've never even heard of Poirier before but his record says he's a finisher. Should be one hell of a fight. I just hope it's televised.
