What did you get from UFC 123?

For me?
1. no more 3 rounds, all fights should go 5 rounds.
2. rules need to change.
3. Machida needs to change his techinque... as peole have figured it out... i saw Rampage of all people close the distance opening Machida to counters.. and cutting off his angles..
4. Matt hughes has no chin.. he was grazed and knocked down.. his recovery was great though.. he was up instantly.. lol.. pretty incredible to see..
5. Take BJ's performance with a grain of salt.. Matt Hughes style was perfect for BJ to shine..
6. Machida needs to be more AGGRESSIVE! He waited till the last minute before showing any sign of life! He's no longer the champ and can't expect the judges to give him that benefit.. he can no longer rest it in the judges scorecard.. he has to take the fight !
7. Last but not least.. Edson Barboza ! What a GREAT addition for the UFC ! He was the BEST looking fighter all NIGHT ! He literally chopped down his opponent.. lol ... I think he is the next superstar in the making ! I had a hard on watching this dude's technique.. he was so fluid, crisp, accurate, light on his feet, and had a sweet six-pack. He has an OK GG, but if he works on that, he will walk through his weight class. Mark my words.. NEXT SUPERSTAR IN THE MAKING!

Agreed, but not all fights, just co-mains and mains should be 25 minutes.

Also, Dana is a prick and a tyrant.

Nuff said.

Things i learned from UFC 123

The 10 point must system needs to go and rounds need to be able to be drawn because i believe round 1 of Rampage vs Machida was a draw.

Barboza looked very good.

Penn KO'ed Hughes but i still think LW is his home.

Hughes still can be competitive

Machida has been figured out.

I agree the judging needs to change though I'm not so keen on draw rounds, too many fighters will play for the draw that way instead of going for the finish.

I'm not so sure technique was Machida's problem in his fight with Rampage, his technique looked good enough in round 3 when he was putting it on Quinton.
To me he looked gunshy and unconfident due to his KO loss.
As Tyson said recently on TUF 'never underestimate the value of confidence'.

What happened to Matt Hughes can happen to any fighter, Wanderlei got trounced by Vitor in similar fashion before going on to be Pride champ for 5 years.
Matt's best days are behind him for sure but he still has enough in the tank to compete, whether he wants to or not after this loss is another matter.

Barboza did look awesome, the amount of torque he gets in his kicks is impressive, looking forward to seeing him fight again.

It's what the man does. It's why his dad wanted him to stop fighting and tried that whole "He needs 6 years to become spiritually, mentally, and phyisically sound again."

He was just hoping people wouldn't figure out Machida Karate. Cat don't change it's stripes.

BJ can clip most people, and this comes from the biggest BJ hater on the web.

Hughes did a Sherk impersonation and lost. No ones shocked. A grain of salt? Who ever won this fight was gonna get over hyped. My advice? Ride the hype train, and enjoy it.

And tito needs to learn how to punch. Oh wait he can't. Get it through your head..... It's not what MAchida does! Stop asking for him to do it. Why not just ask Nick Diaz to be a world class wreslter? Some might consider me telling you the truth as trolling, but I can't stand delusion.

It's possible he's been figured out, the big question is who can take advantage of it and beat him? A fighter needs certain things if he's going to do what Rampage or Shogun did, he needs a damn solid chin, the balls eat some punches in the face for a shot at the counter, and the instincts to stay in the pocket and keep throwing while closing the distance and/or getting hit. There's not too many fighters who have all those characteristics.

1 - Still not sure what to take from the BJ Penn fight, good showing for Penn, but what it means for him at WW is still a huge question mark. What that fight showed me is to never count out a world class athlete, and to expect the unexpected.

2 - Machida is back, and has been far from figured out. I think people were underrating Rampage before the fight, and personally think the fight played out a lot like Ortiz/Machida. I think Machida was working his elusiveness against Rampage, and hypnotizing/flustering him like he does. Rampage fought the conservative, smart fight and squeeked out the decision. Again, never write anyone off. IMO Machida fights are the equivelent of a true martial artist spiritual experience, take that however you want but that's what I see, and I'm pretty sure rampage saw it too.

The last thing I took from this event is that the middle of the pack in the UFC roster is getting thicker and thicker, and it's becoming increasingly harder to pick up the momentum needed to separate yourself from the pack. And when you do finally separate yourself from that pack, the top 5 are sitting there firing on all cylinders ready for the next challenge. Exciting time for the sport.
