Mike Goldberg's commentating
Hi, this is my first post here in these forums, i've actually been reading a lot of posts here and i like what most people write. Overall very intelligent, and insightful save a few.
Anyway, just wanted to vent out some of my frustration at Goldberg's commentating. I don't get how this guy was hired given that he doesn't know jack shit about the sport or the fighters. A good example of this was in last night's event where he said "Lutter's BJJ was comparable to Michael Jordon in Basketball" and then he got his ass called out by Rogan and then he just kept naming basketball players to get out of that awkward situation. The guy doesn't seem to know the techniques involved, he's like some sorta lackey to Randy and Rogan.
At least with Randy and Rogan they tell you what to expect next in the position that the fighters are in. Mike Goldberg pulls shit out of his ass and i bet anyone of us here could do a better job commentating than he does. UFC 67 only made me angrier at the fact that he hasn't been replaced yet.

I dont know, I kinda like have him there, as long as Rogan as there, it provides Rogan opportunities to make some jokes, while still getting the info we need. Hes got a good announcing voice, thats why hes still around. Still I get your point- he does seem to make stuff up.

goldberg is only good at giving you background info and that little bit of play by play he gives. he's no good at giving real insight into the fights.

Goldberg's a straight up announcer commentator who has the UFC gig based on his vocal abilities and not on his knowledge of MMA technique or its history.

I got told yesterday that he trains muay thai. Do you know of somebody that can do a better job? Same with Rogan. Some of the stuff they say annoys me too, but, is there somebody that can do a better job?

I think he does a good job because he's an announcer without a basic knowledge of MMA. If he knew a lot about technique or strategy, him and Joe would be saying all the same things and stepping on top of each other's comments.
Their differences is a nice balance. It allows Goldberg to ask Joe a question about a fighter or a hold. If we felt that Goldberg knew the answer, the question would appear to be unnecessary.
They're a good team.

I like him. If he wasn't there Rogan would struggle to bounce of Randy. It's the typical straight laced commentator and the wacky "out there" colour commentator and it works. I get your point but I like him being there
