Does Hughes really need a confidence booster?

Posters on this forum are saying the reason why the UFC made Hughes vs. Lytle is because Matt needed a confidence booster. My question is does he really need one? Yeah he lost to GSP but it seems to me after he took that loss he still looked confident in his abilities to fight. What are your thoughts?

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

well first off, he didnt only get beat by GSP, he got absolutely dismantled. it may not be that he needs a confidence booster, its just the ufc's job to give him one to see how he rebounds. then they can give him a big fight...like diego or a rubber match with GSP.

feel like betting again?

i just dont see hughes coming out flat after that decimation GSP gave him. he'll be back to his old form that made everyone say he's the most dominant champ in ufc history.

Hughes probaly does need a bit of a booster since getting dominated by GSP. A solid win (against a can, but a win none-the-less) will get it up at least a bit.

I do not think the rubber match is for Matt Hughes himself, but more or less for the audience to recover and see that Matt still is dominant. After seeing Matt's performance or lack of performance after facing GSP, some would think that he lost his edge. It was a lobsided match. To have a rematch immediately, would not have played too favorable for Matt's odd. So this rubber match would help build back credibility for the once dominant force in Matt Hughes...

Anytime a fighter gets KOd especially in such devastating fashion, they need an easier fight for both themselves to see where they are and also for the organization and fans too.

I think Hughes will beat GSP in their next match. He doesn't need a confidence boost.
