I wanted to see Silva win, but I definatly believe those elbows were illegal. He used the point of his elbow! I can't see why the orientation of his body would matter.

If the "up and down" motion was all that mattered, you'd see guys drive elbows into the sides of opponents heads while in side control (that's parallel to the mat) but we don't see that. Or how about when a fighter has his opponent locked up from behind, you never see the fighter infront throw "back elbows".

Even Randy thought thoes 'bows on Lutter were illegal.

Someone else posted this; and we all seem to agree that the rule as is: "No striking downward using the point of the elbow". Isn't clear enough.

Lets face it Silva was very lucky on the ground, Lutter may have lost but has shown the biggest weakness in Silvas game,
Silva will lose to a submission soon unless the UFC protect him and give him average strikers to fight for the knockout hounds that get drunk and moan as soon as fighters start wrestling.

TEAM GROTTY 2013
Stefan Struve
Donald Cerrone
Glover Texiera
Cub Swanson

lucky?! he swept lutter twice out of the full mount and made lutters armbar attempt look retarded. he also took advantage of lutter standing up while still in guard and triangled him after a wicked upkick. silva did a pretty good job on the ground bro.

not sketchy...

Sure he had to drop weight... so?
Most fighters do... That is something he has COMPLETE and UTTER CONTROL over... its his own dang fault why he isnt in tip top condition before the fight...

How did he end up getting those elbows again?... oh right he got nailed by an UPKICK... not an elbow, thats what got him into the triangle, and finally the elbows...

Upto that point, it was all Lutters game, it was on the ground... what more could he ask for???

There is NO need for rubber match, Lutter didnt make weight... and he showed no clear dominance when it was on the ground.

The topic of this thread made me laugh. I've seen "sketchy" fights before but this was NOT one of them. So many peeps were talking about Lutter's world class ground game including Lutter himself on "Inside the UFC" with Rogan. How embarrising for Lutter and his fanboys to talk about his ground game and do nothing with it. Yeah he got a couple of takedowns on Silva but all he has to show for them is Silva's highlight sweep and his legal elbows on your dome!

Just look at my avatar(props to TREY). He is on an angle and he follows through. They are not direct downward elbows, but rather well placed angled elbows. I am no expert, but I am pretty sure they were legal.
