I mean this with as much respect as possible, but some of y'all are a bunch of haters and need to climb off your "I'm a TRUE MMA FAN" soap box and answer the question.

If you ask anybody that doesn't follow MMA if they know who Brock lesnar is, they'll likely say YES. I work with several people that don't like UFC but still know his name, and those same people would probably be ignorant to who the iceman is. And those people that know lesnar would outnumber the people that don't know liddell due to his super-star status as a WWE star and now as a UFC star.

So if recognition = popularity then Lesnar wins IMHO.

But if you talk to any "TRUE MMA FAN" they'll go on a 20 minute diatribe about how much Lesnar sucks and anybody could beat him with a wet noodle, just because some of y'all are haters...plain and simple.

Is he recognized as an MMA fighter or WWE fighter. Brock has been around in UFCs present time when they were the biggest but go look at earlier Chuck Liddell, he constantly sold significantly more than other PPVs without him.

Brock also had the fortune of being a is he for real type guy to start with. People tuned in to see if he could really fight and after that when he did win he had great challengers (Cain, Shane, JDS) who all look like serious competition.

Unfortunately for Liddell, GSP and others the true threat was removed by their domination. After Couture, Liddell was pretty much set with no real challenges. GSP had great in the past but a lot were very one sided as of late.

Look what Rampage/Rashad drew and then look at Lesnar/Carwin which was for the title, both drew massive amounts. UFC 100 IMO doesnt count due to how stacked that card was. You put 2 titles and Hendo/bisping on any card and hype it for 4 months and you will get blockbuster numbers.

Overall Top 3 but to say clear and away number 1 is a little silly at present IMO.

George W. Bush is the "most known" man in the world.

LOL NO!

I would say In this particular context popular means most known and recognizable. You have to admit Lesnars appeal is HUGE. whether its positive or negative its still huge and in this industry thats all that matters.

I'm not a fan of his but I wont ever miss a fight of his. would you?

I think you have to realize that MMA is still a very niche product. I wouldnt be surprised if there are ppl who know Randy Couture as the guy in the Expendables or Rampage Jackson as the guy from the A-team.

If Rampage hardly fights and goes on to be an action star is he more popular MMA fighter than GSP, I bet a lot more ppl would know of Rampage. Does that make Rampage #1 because of some big budget flicks.

I do enjoy Lesnars fights but if his next fight was against say Ben Rothwell of Cheick Kongo, Lesnar would have very little impact on whether I buy the card or not.

Lesnar has been the biggest of in MMA for the last few years but he fought two great threatening opponents which causes amazing buzz plus he came back from a life threatening disease and fought on the most stacked card ever. That is a great story that had a lot of buzz.

Wait til he reaches the point where Liddell was fighting Horn, Babalu and see the interest in Lesnar. If it continues the same as it is now Lesnar is def number 1 but I dont think he is the top dawg of all-time yet.

Popular however implies recognition, notariety, and most importantly fan support... in which case there is no doubt the most "popular" fighter in UFC history is Randy Couture. Show me a fight where he isn't the heavy crowd favrorite.
See Liddell/Couture. End /

Well according to this thread. I was wrong and answered yes but at least I can admit when I am wrong.
