Why are they trying to let Pettis unify the LW belt? Condit at WW, Sonnen at MW, and Cantwell at LHW never got a match with the champ right away. They actually didn't even get great opponents as they entered the UFC as the last champs of their WEC divisions. So why in hell does Pettis get this chance? And I am a big Pettis fan...it just makes no sense.

Also with Maynard getting the next fight...what do you think Pettis will do? I think it would be a joke to have him wait out until late summer at best. I'd rather just let the kid grow. He is very young, there is no reason to rush it.

I suppose it's a case of him being treated equally to the other Champs that moved with the merge at the same time, who obviously keep their belts because UFC ones were nonexistant, so they give him the opportunity to keep his. Different circumstances.

It shouldn't mean anything to Pettis or whoever the UFC champ is though, it's really no different to any title defense they'd be scheduled for anyway. The Edgar-Maynard draw has cocked it up a bit though, hopefully Pettis will do a JDS and not an Evans, and just fight anyway.

Condit would have gotten one if he beat Kampmann.

Good point.

I think with the absorption of the WEC the UFC can hype belt unification.

When Condit, Sonnen, and Cantwell entered the UFC we were to believe the WEC didn't have the same level fighter.

Now that the WEC is disbanded we need to believe these guys are on the same level so we can pay the big bucks for PPV.

I think Maynard deserves the rematch.

Or they should have Maynard, Pettis, Henderson, and Edgar fight "grand prix" style like the guys in Pride did ( I am totally kidding )

Because when Condit and the others came to UFC the WEC still existed.

Its the merger of the organizations. Even though they were technically owned by the same people, they were still two separate organizations with separate managerial and organizational staff. And as for the absorbion of Condit/Sonnen/Cantwell. They came to the UFC because their weight divisions dried up. There's no title if there's no one to contend it.

Bit of a different situation.

It's hard to recognize Aldo and Cruz as inaugural UFC champs and then tell Pettis his belt means nothing.

And of course title v title is a marketing gem.

When Cantwell, Sonnen and Condit came over their divisions didn't merge with the UFC. The WEC had simply cut them.

Sonnen and Condit would have received title shots had they not lost in their debuts though. I think the UFC knew Cantwell wasn't ready.

Cruz and Aldo were handed UFC Titles, Pettis should atleast get a shot at one. It's a completely different situation than the ones you mentioned.

Always rooting for: Bisping, Shogun, Jon Jones, Daley, Hardy, Sonnen, Fedor, Couture, Jacare.
