The UFC don't put on many stinkers. Joe Silva is the best match-maker in the world for a reason. UFC 129 is not a stinker on paper though, far from it. I'll tune in to watch Georges fight no matter the opponent, and Jake Shields just so happens to be a damn good opponent to GSP's title reign. Then we've got Randy dirty boxing Machida's face to a 3 fight losing streak. Following that you've got the ever-entertaining Rory MacDonald taking on a TUF winner; one of my favourite fighters Phil Davis putting a beating on Matt Hamill and sure-fire entertainment from Benson Henderson and Mark Bocek. You can't have 5 fights featuring big names, but this card has serious potential.

Any worries about the PPV numbers should be forgotten. GSP is a massive name, and his last 2 title fights did over $850,000 despite having weaker/equal co-main's to this one; though I'd say Randy will sell better than Mir or Carwin. I think the Toronto crowd will be loving this card, any time GSP fights in Canada is a massive event. I think this card will sell massive numbers, GSP and Randy on the same card must be leaving Dana and the Fertita's licking their lips. All they'd need is Brock Lesnar added to the card and this would sell off the scale numbers!

Kampmann might actually have better BJJ than GSP but he isn't a better grappler. The fight will be one sides but all GSP fights are what do they want the UFC to do. Machida is going to knock Randy out. If Aldo/Hominick gets put on this card it automatically gets upgraded to awesome. Leg kicks and liver punches galore my friend.

Shields vs GSP: a fight I've wanted for YEARS!!!

Machida vs Couture: Very interesting...

Brookins: Interesting to watch grow

Henderson: Fun(ish) for me to watch

Davis: Eh, still see him as hype, but curious as to what he can do with higher level opponents...but thats just me!

All in all. I like this card. Its gonna be worth the 44.95, but I don't expect fireworks.

You can't judge MMA cards or fights before they happen. Obviously your friends learnt nothing from UFC 125.

It's gonna be an awesome card, favorite or not, Shields will never be dominated (Or perhaps he will?) and in a recent interview Aldo stated that he would be ready to fight around the time this will go down... IF he were to be added, how can you not like this:

GSP vs. Jake Shields
Aldo vs. ???
Machida vs. Couture
Bendo vs. Bocek
Mr. Wonderful vs. Matt Hammill

Awesome, even without Aldo

Ha-ha, it's not simply my friends. I've been hearing and seeing a lot of it in general. People just seem to feel let down... I guess they were expecting a truly 'stacked' card given their own perceived historical significance of the event. I think more like you do, and always have. I never judge an event on the basis of names, as big names have disappointed us on more than one occasion. I have found all too often that it's the lesser/progressing names that put on the truly great fights, and that's why I'm excited about this card. I always tell people with a 'big name = big PPV' mindset... just remember UFC 108.

Couldn't agree more!
There are so many great fights right now that are projected to happen, so hopefully they all pan out!

Its not a terrible card, but its a severely disappointing card on paper. Its not really a card where you can satisfy 40,000 people based on the initial hype that this was going to be the best card ever. All they did was stick a bunch of Canadians... on a Canadian Event. The issue is that while its not a bad thing to include local talent, 9 Canadians is practically force feeding. What makes matters worse is that for the Canadians NOT in the Main Event, all of them are in the low end to the middle end of of the ladder at best. None of them are really big names or contenders for the titles. You can see as was I how disappointed people got, they were expecting at best 2 title fights perhaps, but at least all the biggest names and contenders that were ready for action on that night filled on this card. UFC 128 and 130 look alot better, im sure a number of people are contemplating about not going to UFC 129 and look forward to 128 and/or 130 instead where they have bigger names and fighters that are title contending hopefuls. GSP vs Jake Shields is excellent but its not a superfight that can easily attract 40,000. Its easily do able at any other Event. In comparison when Dana White said that one day he wanted to make 60,000 (or more) at Dallas Stadium when he had a superfight like GSP vs Anderson Silva or Brock Lesnar (before he got exposed) vs Fedor lined up. Simply put, a bunch of people were seriously let down for UFC 129 mostly because of the UFCs over insistence of Canadian Nuthugging, they screwed up and now they are going to have to push 40,000 to actually show up. Remember that its not the local people but people around the World were expected to show up. Do they wanna ride a long plane trip from say England to see Jason MacDonald or Jose Aldo?

Im currently living in Canada and even I am disappointed and not sure if I should attend UFC 129, just give us the best fighters and biggest names no matter where they are from. The Brazil Event however is likely to be filled with the best and biggest names that Brazil has to offer and there is many, I look forward to that one.

Prediction: 129 will be one of the best events of the year!
Excitement guaranteed!

It needs one more big fight ... i mean 2 big names. And i'm predicting it will be a MW bout.

Demian Maia maybe?! or Wanderlei Silva.....
Timing would be perfect!

.

BELIEVE!

As much as I'd like to see a card that's as stacked as Pride 33 I know it's not going to happen, 2 title fights or main event level fights is about as much as I can reasonably expect. Yes there's a slight lack of "big names" but big names don't guarantee good fights. The card as it is looks pretty solid and unless something goes really wrong it should be full of quality fights.
