Houston Alexander comes to mind. He quickly became one of the most popular and exciting guys in the LHW division after just two fights and after that everybody realised he sucked and he got humiliated again and again.

Brandon Vera wins this hands down!

Tank Abbott, started his career at 6-4 but always doing well in tournaments and being one of the company's biggest stars to going 4-10 resigning with the UFC and getting tooled.

I think Gonzaga should be on that list! He KO's the second best HW in the world (Cro Cop was 2nd at the time) and the next thing we know he gets destroyed by Randy, Werdum, Carwin, JDS, and Schaub!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

I say Machida simply because he was rated so high by everyone only to drop (3) fights in a row and is potentially on the verge of being cut

Houston Alexander became very popular after just 2 bouts. That's what I call meteoric rise. Cro Cop has never risen in the UFC (let alone meteoric), he was just walking and glowing brighter than any other fighter due to his success in PRIDE. Sylvia, Arlovski, Sonnen and Liddell have been around for years, so you can hardly call their rise meteoric... they've earned it. And Machida was building himself for years and even longer than most of the UFC fighters. His losses to Shogun and Rampage do not mean that he's done. He may not get the title back, but he's still a very good fighter.

Speaking of "meteoric" fall, Cro Cop, Arlovski, Liddell, Wanderlei, Vera, Houston Alexander and Tim Sylvia surely define this term by their most recent performances.

The bottom line, Houston Alexander is like a star which shined too bright for too short period of time. My guess that luck was a factor in the beginning of his UFC career. Jardine proved to be very Koable, but a victory over Sakara was great.

Favorite fighters:
1. Badr Hari
2. Remy Bonjasky
3. Mauricio Rua
4. Anderson Silva
5. Alistair Overeem

Fedor is not on UFC roster and most likely will never be. And after his victory over Silva and possible loss to Overeem, he will still be considered very dangerous. Fedor needs 0-3 losing streak that would prove that he's drastically declining... and his rise wasn't meteoric. In case he wins Strikeforce GP, it won't be considered a rise also.

how about brock lesnar..

he was hugely hyped, but all the glowing fame, took noe hell of a beating against cain. Perhaps he would need another loss, to fit the category

Wow, schooled me there. I do think he will lose to Silva though.
