Meteoric Rise And Fall Of UFC Fighters...

So after reading various threads on Chael I decided to write an article on this subject.

Who do you feel had it worst...

List has been edited based on input from the members here.

War Machine * He actually legally changed his name all the while pursuing his outside career. Then he tried selling what was it his kidney... All the while he gets into a bar brawl and gets incarcerated.

LEE MURRAY *

The biggest rise and fall would have to be LEE MURRAY!!! This is gonna be a long one. Most of you probably already know. If you don't I'll write something soon. They're apparently making a movie based on him.

Efrain Escudero is up there on my list as he was a highly touted lw who won the TUF season Eight and subsequently got cut. Think he might be the first TUF winner to have been cut. Danzig came pretty close, but was saved by the bell.

Brandon Vera rattles off eight consecutive wins early on in his career culminating in beating an ex HW champ. Then the rocky road begins after his loss to Tim Sylvia.

Lyoto Machida Unlike the other two Machida had a lot of hype and it was warranted. I still believe he's an elite fighter and is more than capable of contending and even winning the LHW belt again in the near future. But his situation is slightly different. Strangely enough he could be on the cutting block if he happened to lose again which is crazy seeing how good he is. He was undefeated, won the belt, defended it successfully and lost it in a rematch. I'm never counting him out on any fights, but the star power has certainly waned. Perhaps that's where he excels best when there's less pressure.

Mirko Crocop Filipovic Grand Prix Champ. Although he has a winning record in the UFC org it just hasn't seemed that impressive. Suppose us fans expect too much from him. Will his next fight be his last? Win or lose, sadly it may be...

Gabriel Gonzaga * Touted as the next big thing after a terrifying (to Mirko fans) KO of Mirko shot up as a contender eventually relegated to gatekeeper status, then subsequently released. If that's not a high/low for ones' career then I don't know what is...

Houston Alexander * Too many times we see the flashy athletes whether it's in basketball, football, boxing or in MMA and we feel that they could be the next big superstar. Then it all comes crashing down as fast as they rose. Houston is sadly a prime example.

Karo Parisyan * WEC WW Champion. One time UFC contender who never received his shot. Gets relegated to gate keeper status. On the verge of being cut, but pulls off a hard won battle against a sturdy up and comer only to get tested for banned painkillers and subsequently gets cut. After a long lay off he finally returns then gets TKOed and cut again. If you look at his record he's fought top competition in the WW division and beat most of em.

Tim Sylvia Ex HW champ who got booed by the fans and to make matters worse was not well respected amongst other fighters. He eventually loses to Big Nog then packs up and leaves to fight against none other than Fedor and gets cracked hard. Eventually he loses to an aging boxer in Ray Mercer in less than a minute. After winning a few fights is able to make it back to the big leagues.

Andrei Arlovski Ex HW Champ. Man this dude was fun to watch. Then like other fighters once he gets KOed he shuts down mentally. Wins a few then gets KOed in devastating fashion by arguably the best MMA fighter in the world in another org and loses two more times.

Jen "Lil Evil" Pulver.
Won the UFC LW belt from Caol Uono and defended twice successfully against Hallman (he beat Matt Hughes x2) and BJ Penn in an epic fight of heart. Two more wins after in other orgs then had sporadic wins after that. Then somewhere down the line something broke mentally or changed.
He's lost EIGHT OUT OF HIS NINE BOUTS. Lost six in a row. If you ever watch his videos and interviews you can tell the man is hurt. He has a crazy backstory. Reminds me of Tyson on a smaller scale. He's a good coach and is still well respected. Time to hang up the gloves and put on the mitts to train the new generation.

Chael Sonnen Lolz...this topic was basically dedicated to Chael and I totally forgot to add em in. Definitely not a fan of his although I was indifferent back when he was the LHW WEC champ. Then I realized he was full of verbal diarrhea. So lets get into it. He successfully beats quality fighters to contend for the belt. Is literally seconds away from the biggest upset in MMA history. Then loses to an arm triangle, gets caught with steroid use, is going under legal issues, and is now currently suspended from the UFC. This all happened in the span of several months. From anti-hero to pariah and now to unemployed mma fighter who's a broke realtor with a tarnished political career. Can it get any better...

Chuck Liddell We all know his story. To be able to wreck shop the way he did in his prime years then to have it all come back to him in the same way he inflicted pain on others. What a strange karmic boomerang... He lost five out of his last six fights with four of em being brutal KOs. Not exactly the way an ex champ and figure head would want to end his career. BUT this story does have a happy ending. Seeing he has very close ties to the UFC management he's now the VP exec. Long live the ICE MAN!!!

Hope you enjoyed a brief synopsis on this topic.

There's probably tons more, but it was getting kinda depressing writing this cuz I can only imagine being the fighter. Where one day the spotlight is on you then the next it's gone...

Chael lost via a triangle, not an arm triangle. Good start to what will probably be an interesting and heavily debated thread.

I think Brandon Vera got it the worst... and Timmys record was pretty damn good he never really experienced repeatedly getting smashed in the cage..

Ya I would say Vera has fallen tremendously. Escudaro as well. Only TUF winner to be cut from the UFC i believe. So sad.

Houston Alexander has to be on the list. KOs Jardine, who just came of knocking Forrest Griffin out, in under a minute then KOs Alessio Sakara and then he's next big thing only to humiliatingly lose his next three fights and gets cut. And then they bring him back to face Kimbo in what everyone thought it was gonna be greatest standup war ever only to show that he's scared of Kimbo and even got slammed by Kimbo.

Yep meant the arm bar/triangle lock combination A. Silva submitted Chael with.

Lots of good input with Houston and Todd Duffee. One more I completely forgot was Jen "Lil Evil" Pulver.
