Being an amateur champion is more highly rated than being a middling pro like Davis. There are tons of "pros". They fight for money, that is all. A ton don't even have formal training in amateurs.

I'd be more anxious to see an accomplished amateur enter MMA now than any pro.

The same thing happens with KJ Noons (whos boxing is sound but certainly not world class). MMA journalists like to chuck "pro boxer" out there so that when they lose it's like a victory for MMA.

This is not right. The judging of fights in the ufc has some serious holes and it needs to change.

When i think of some one holding another guy against the cage or holding them onto the ground, without advancing position, working sub attempts or working some GNP, it reminds me of a police officer holding some drunken idiot down.

He isnt fighting that man, he is restraining him, holding him. That isnt fighting, or mixed marital arts.
It isn't just the UFC, it is all of America. The UFC is just getting the guys assigned by the commmision.
And although Winner did more damage, he landed very few strikes because he wasn't able to. Lentz negated all of his offense sans two or three combinations per round, and took him down a few times, albeit brief, are always scored.

No doubt, at worst the rounds should've been scored 10-10, since neither fighter got in very much offense, but in the USA, that type of wrestling has more emphasis on scoring and I'm not sure if that will change in a long time.
