Edgar-maynard Title Rematch To Take Place At Ufc 130

Quote:
Gray (The Bully) Maynard will have another chance to take the UFC lightweight title away from current champion Frankie (The Answer) Edgar, and that opportunity will come in May.

UFC president Dana White has confirmed in an interview with MMAFighting.com that the rematch between Edgar and Maynard will be the main event at UFC 130, which is expected to be held on May 28 in Las Vegas.

The two top lightweights squared off at UFC 125 on New Year's Day and after a punishing first round, it appeared as though Maynard was in position to capture the belt. Edgar managed to survive the early beatdown and was able to battle back with the fight ending in a draw.

White had originally stated that former WEC champion Anthony Pettis would get the next title shot in the lightweight division, but because of the draw the UFC decided to let Edgar and Maynard square off once again.

This will mark the third time that the two closely-matched fighters will collide in the octagon. Prior to UFC 125, Maynard earned a unanimous decision victory over Edgar in April 2008.

While nothing has been made official for UFC 130, other bouts linked to the event include Quinton (Rampage) Jackson battling Thiago Silva and heavyweight Frank Mir meeting Roy Nelson.

I'm gradually turning into Frankie Edgar's fan, so I hope he keeps the title for the next 2 years at least.

Favorite fighters:
1. Badr Hari
2. Remy Bonjasky
3. Mauricio Rua
4. Anderson Silva
5. Alistair Overeem

Looks like the UFC want more than 350,000 buys on this one! Turning into a pretty stacked card.

Thats what I think, I thought it would be that way the last time but all credit to Frankie he did well to get back and get a draw out of that fight.

I watched that fight again yesterday as it happens and have to say that if Maynard had of only kept his composure I think he could of finished the fight in the first.

After the double uppercut he landed sending Edgar to the floor for the second time in that round, he was then in the perfect position to take full mount position, in fact he was over him trying to land heavy punches but just kind of standing over him without sitting on him to control his body, as a result Edgar was able to slide out the way and get back to his feet and continue to survive.

He had plenty of time and gas at that point to take full mount and concentrate on keeping him pinned to the mat, insuring he could not escape, then once he had established position he could of come up and gone for the finish. had he not gone blood hunting for the immediate finish I think he could of finished him with a little more time and thought.

I think Grey will learn a lot from re-watching that fight and do better in the next fight, even if he does not find himself in such a great position early again, I think he will have a winning game plan.

agreed, he wont be gassed this time and will get more takedowns, what i dont understand is when fighters put on destructions and their opponents are rocked on the ground why not go to full mount when they are there? carwin would have beat brock had he done that, maynard as well would have beat frankie, dan may have beaten shields.

I thinks probably pretty tough to keep your composure when you're in a title fight and have your opponent rocked badly. Obviously some guys like Anderson Silva can do it and still manage to pick their punches but you can't really blame Maynard for getting a bit over excited.
