Its not that he just has fancy kicks. He trains with Duke Roufus and has consistently show that he is a great striker. If he wasnt MMA he could be K1, Pat Barry himself has said this.

Ive been watching Pettis fight since his first televised fight. So its no like im hopping on a bandwagon based off "flashy kicks" The guy is well rounded. Bendo had trouble getting him to the ground and almost got submitted multiple times. Pettis is no joke off his back, he is very fast and sinks triangles in fast.

And like previous people have said Guida's biggest hole is sub defense. Although i think its his standup.

Guida is going to be he first of many to Wreck him.

In fact 99% of WEC fighters are fcuked now they are in the UFC, you think the merge was good for the WEC fighters and the divisions, nobody won and nothign benefits, the LW's are not going to cut the grade and get cut, the FW and BW divisions are going to be nothing more than the odd fight on the under card and in the prelims yet these spaces where still valuable to give fight time to the heavier weights who will miss out and also suffer, and a side from the odd match up here and there UFC cards are now starting to look more and more like the second rate quality of fighters that the WEC cards where.

I thought that they were going to make Pettis wait and do like they did with the PRIDE MW and LHW belts and have a Unification bout between the LW champs of the UFC and WEC. I guess if Pettis loses, it will be massively detrimental to his UFC LW Title aspirations.

i think pettis has shown great take down defense and his sub defense is really improved cuz henderson is a beast a subs but the only thing i question about this kid is his strength he seems a little small but if he shows he can block guida's takedowns im all aboard him getting a title shot but i got him winning by submission after a barage of strikes

As much as I love the guys from the Roufus camp, I've stated before that they don't have, that I know of, any elite level wrestlers in their camp.

I'm aware they train with other camps but it's important to have elite level wrestlers where you do the majority of your training. This could really hurt Pettis against Guida.

Pettis will tool him he is at least equivalent to Kenny at this point from a skills standpoint. Pettis has a better guard and wrestling than Kenny actually which makes him matchup better with Clay than Kenny did. He also went 5 rounds with Bendo no problem so conditioning won't be a factor in a 3 round fight.

I am curious what tactic will Guida have fo Pettis' stand-up.
I don't think he will do "tribal-dance" arround him, like he did against Gomi.
With Gomi it was easier, considering he didn't have any wrestling skills and not much BJJ to offer.
Guida's strategy was brilliant, even if it wasn't the most pleasent to watch. It did the job.

I believe that won't work against Pettis.
As far as cardio-energy-endurance, both fighters are excellent. Guida can go all-out untill the final bell and Pettis went 5 intense rounds against Henderson.

I think Guida is a bit stronger and has what it takes to get Pettis to the ground. But i expect him to have big problems on the ground trying to impose his will.
And even on the feet. Pettis is more creative, has better technique and is very dangerous of his back also.

But Guida has Greg Jackson and that is a big factor in this equation. I think the key for Guida to win this will be his wrestling.
For Pettis - everything else.

My money is on Pettis. Maybe a submission in the 3rd.

Guida is an above average wrestler with a tenacious pace. With the worst stand up in the LW division, im shocked to see so many people think this fairly average fighter is going to run through Pettis. Shane Roller is a better wrestler than Guida and Pettis beat him comfortably.

For me:
Pettis is more than just the leaping ninja kick. He has great fundamental stand up and his pacing in deliberate.

He showed great endurance against Henderson, when he sat on his back for an entire round.

He has all the tools to beat Guida, JJ, stand up, subs.
