The welterweight bout between Paulo Thiago and Johny Hendricks scheduled for the March 3 UFC on Versus 3 card in Louisville, Ky. has been scrapped due to Thiago suffering an elbow injury.

"Extremely disappointed that Paulo Thiago pulled out of the fight vs. Johny Hendricks. It was gonna be a great fight!" Hendricks' Team Takedown management tweeted Wednesday night.

Thiago (13-3) is coming off two straight losses, but despite the setbacks, signed a new four-fight deal with the UFC last November. In his most recent fight Thiago lost a decision to Diego Sanchez in a Fight of the Night at UFC 121 last October.

Whether or not the Oklahoma State University four-time All-American stays on the Versus card, Hendricks (9-1) will next look to bounce back from the first loss of his career, a decision against Rick Story at the TUF 12 Finale in December.

The main card of UFC on Versus 3 features Brian Bowles vs. Damacio Page, Alessio Sakara vs. Rafael Natal, C.B. Dollaway vs. Mark Munoz and main event Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann.

That's a shame!

I think you're wrong here.

Both have lost their last fight and Thiago actually lost his last 2 fights.
For Thiago it could have been a very dangerous fight, maybe a "win or go home fight".

So a lot of motivation for both guys.

Imo this would have been a very good fight actually, with both fighters needing to prove something.

No. But Thiago could very well be, even though, personally i wouldn't agree on him being cut.

He has only foght top fighters since coming to the UFC: Kos, Fitch (back to back), Volkman, Swick, Kampmann, Sanchez.

Imo, he's fought much tougher competition than Hendricks or Stun Gun for example.
