RUMOUR Kenny Florian in the process of dropping to 145 pounds

Quote:
It appears former two-time lightweight title contender, Kenny Florian is in the process of dropping to 145 pounds in search of a title fight against ultra-talented Brazilian, Jose Aldo down the road despite talking smack about Melvin Guillard in recent weeks.

This via the Bleacher Report:

The rumor really picked up Friday afternoon when fellow UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard was a guest on Heath Herring and Jay Pagliaro’s “The Show” radio show.

Words have been exchanged between Florian and Guillard over the past month or two which obviously led to speculation that the two may be stepping into the cage soon.

When asked about a potential fight with Florian, Guillard said that he had talked to UFC President Dana White earlier in the day and that White had informed him that Florian was in the process of, “dropping to 145.”

Florian was all for welcoming Aldo to the 145 pound ranks at the end of 2010, offering to square off with the Brazilian while he was still the WEC champion and looking for a legit challenge. Will “Ken Flo” be able to drop the extra ten pounds after competing at 185 pounds on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show back in the day? Tell us what you think…

Although I'd like to see Aldo tool Florian standing, I only want to see it at 155lbs.

Florian has basically no power at LW as it is (the Guida KO I know, but c'mon), at 145lbs he's going to be a skeleton. He needs to move to 170lbs instead, add some muscle and power back on.

EDIT: Just read that it's MMA Bay and the Bleacher Report. I'm sorry you guys. I didn't notice. Take this with a grain (5lb bag) of salt.

Florian would get tooled by Aldo, although I can't say I wouldn't be interested to watch that fight go down. The LW division is stacked and the FW division is shallow/new, so from a business standpoint this would be a good change for the UFC.

Okay, some people are just built for certain height and weight.

My little brother is 6'3 and 160ish lbs, and he looks pretty decent. He's not skin and bone and looks like he has alot of meat on him.

Kenny at 145 lbs. would be just plain unhealthy.

Whilst good for the UFC, this would be a bad move because it instantly makes it appear like he's ducking Guillard.

Although it's probably just a BS article.

At least now we know Florian won't be cutting to 145.

Not sure if he could make 145 healthily. Aldo would obliterate him anywho.

Guillard might catch him, let alone Jose.

Florian started his mma career at 185.

I don't think it will happen.

He started at 170lbs. He only moved to 185 because of TUF.

That and at the time 155 didn't really exist so no one fought there pretty much.
