I had a stream so it wasn't the best quality but it seems to me that his flashy style doesn't work too well with better fighters. After the Stephan Bonnar fight i remember being amazed by what his standup could do. But now im thinking it will lead to him getting knocked out. What did you guys think when you were watching it?? You guys had a better picture i am sure.

His standup is a lot better now he is a lot less reliant on being unpredictable. He understood his own distance a lot better with the way he was landing those hooks while bader was nowhere near striking range himself. His traditional kicks also looked better. If he ever gets really good at striking he will be nearly impossible to beat because that freak length will give him a massive advantage over even great strikers. It would be like if Semmy had the athletic ability of Badr Hari.

His stand up is weak the wow factor is gone. WHen he was unpredictable it was sick. Now that its clean he does not know when to throw it. His timing is off. if he did not have a 10 inch asvantage he would get counter easily. It will be interesting to see how he does against shogun. Bader was not a good opponent to judge his stand up as lil nog messed up bader standing.

I think anyone fighting Bonnar can be made good, just cause he loves to brawl. Personally I havn't seen anything of great substance from Jones on the feet. Luckily that doesn't matter as its clearly his ground game that puts him that level above guys. What he did to Bader, a solid wrestler was very impressive, and the reach he has means hes hitting subs from weird angles.

But yeah without that reach he'd definitely struggle standing/

The fight wasn't on the feet long enough to make the claims said on here at all...

And JBJ was smart in not standing with Bader because he knew Baders game plan was to knock him out.

And JBJ seemed obviously confident on the ground and knew he would have way less of a upset if he played it smart and beat Bader where he knew he could.

And i believe if he threw his usual flashy stuff he knew Bader was a good enough wrestler to be able to take him down, and JJ doesn't seem like a dumb guy and did exactly what he wanted.

The man has no limits like ive been saying... I know he could win in a pure stand up war, or anywhere for that matter against Bader, and Bader is NO JOKE, JJ is the future people time to get used to it

When JBJ fights machida, i better don't see u on machida nuts when he beats jones. Ryan Bader was garbage before this fight any man still in there 20s who struggles to beat lil nog is not good. He struggle to take lil nog down, he did the same to jones who is a wrestler. I will judge jones after the shogun fight. Bader is no damn standard to judge someone. He is only a good wrestler who was fighting a better wrestler.

Jones is special but ryan bader is no measuring stick for jones. Shogun is, i think shogun will win but we will see. As for bader the dude knocked out keith and struggle to beat lil nog. If you really think he was that good then he would have not been a clear underdog. If u think he is that damn good what is next for him? I don't see him beating anyone in the top 5, maybe tito or lil nog. At this point i think forrest will beat him via submission.

Jones is a force and the way he handled a man of Bader's stature is impressive, but I've been saying it for a while now and this fight proved more than ever, that an excellent striker will be his undoing.

And I'm not interested in 'yeah but Jones will just take him down...' there are just so many different ways Shogun can hit Jones it's not even funny.

Worst thing is, Jones' best counter for that is to clinch/takedown, he'll probably get hit even more in the clinch, and he looked good last night but I think Shogun's Jiu Jitsu knowledge will keep him alive on the ground and he'll confuse Jones.

I always said that his standup is very overrated. He can NO WAY in hell stand up with Shogun for a long period of time.. but the thing is, he really doesn't have too cause he can take Shogun down whenever he wants him down.

I think he is a good enough ground fighter already to beat Shogun. But if THE Shogun of late shows up I don't see him winning just yet, but he will definitely already give Shogun a very tough battle.

I´m not impressed by his standup, but i´m surely impressed by the away he man handles guys with almost the same size and much more experience in mma/ martial arts.

I´m just not sure if he could man handle Page and Randy in the LHW div, i´d pay to see those fights.

I don´t think Page will be a problem to Bones.
Perhaps Machida can cause him trouble, since he as a good TDD and elusive standup. Hope that fight happens too.
If Shogun somehow manages to keep the fight on the feet, wich i don´t believe since old Coleman took him down with ease, perhaps he could make some damage with leg kicks and win by points.

I used to think he would have a really tough time with Page because it is so hard to take him down in the clinch but the way he just made Bader look like a child while grappling has changed my mind. It is really hard to say how well an outside striker like Machida would do against someone with those freak arms also that completely changes his distancing.

I am almost 100% sure that Lyoto would beat him! This fight would end up being a striking battle, where Lyoto is miles ahead.

Even Rampage is a much better striker! Ok he looks like a better version of Bader.. but wich much better hands and core strenght.
Osmium makes an excellent point there Bobby!

Jones won his last 4 fights (Hamill included), by absolutely dominating his opponnents on the ground.
2 of them excellent wrestlers - he made them look like amateurs. He completely shut down Bader's tools/skills. Bader did nothing. And Jones made it look like child's play.

He is sending a message, simillar to the one GSP is sending in/after his fights, but Jones' is more powerful: when you're going in a fight against Jones, don't let him take you down. Because he has amazing ground control and skills. On top of this, he's a big, strong dude. And his GnP is vicious.

Fighters will be cautious when trying to set up their striking against Jones. That will allow him to be more loose and will give him more freedom in his executions.

That's why i think Lyoto and Rampage would have big problems on solving the puzzle called Jones.

The size difference is the major factor in the Machida fight imo. For sure Machida has been bulking up lately but nevertheless Bones is much bigger and perhaps he could keep Machida on the ground using his size. If that were to happen it wouldn´t remain many time of fight on the feet where Machida could take the lead. Anyway i wanna see that fight and hopefully Machida takes that. :)

This is mma, but if we were to judge bones skills separately his striking is not as good as people make it seem. he has this freakish reach and i do not even remember him jabbing a single time last night.... he does have good take downs, but his ground game is average and he will not be able to keep shogun down.If jones turns his face like he did against bader shogun is putting him to sleep with ease. Plus it seemed as if Bader choked.

I can say with confidence that Jones would rag doll both Machida and rampage around quite comfortably. Machida was taken down by rampage and controlled in the clinch for a decent portion of their fight.

Jones would have his way with either one of them. Machidas TDD is very goood, but Jones take downs are FREAKISHLY GOOD. Its simply another league and he can and will take down any one in the LHW division.

Shogun is without a doubt Jones' toughest test at LHW. Lets not forget that at 23 years of age, Rua was mauling the best LHW's in the world time and time again, hes one of the best LHW fighters ever. This is going to be war, Jones has never faced a striker like Rua or a fighter with ruas ground game. This is a huge test for him.

Jones has never had to deal with an overly aggressive fighter either, im verty interested to see how he deals with Ruas aggression and will to win both on the feet and on the ground. Alistair Overeem has said that Shogun Rua is the toughest fighter he has ever faced in his entire career.

Jones has no room for error in this fight and thats going to be hard when shogun is going to come at him like the beserker he is. He cant make errors on the feet or he will get tagged and he cant make errors on the ground or hes going to get swept and reversed.

Shogun has so many tools from his back. Sweeps, reversals, leg locks. Hes very tricky and very aggressive on the ground.

I could talk about this fight all day long. I cant believe its only six weeks away!

Sorry? Bader isnt an aggressive fighter like Rua. Neither is Vera, hamill or Vlad.

Rua is one of a kind, this guy is a beserker. He isnt going to be confused by Jones striking or cautious of the take down. He knows damn well hes getting take down and I dont think hes really that bothered. Rua likes fighting from his back. Hes aggressive at all times.

The only other fighter I can think of with Ruas tenacity and aggression in all areas of the fight game is Carlos Condit, except Rua is more technically skilled.
