what do you guys think the out come of the fight would of been if Spider didnt connect with that kick.

i think up until that point vitor was matching and beating spider to the punch. havent watched it again, but he even got a take down. even though spider got up real quick...

what are your thoughts? Vitor looked good up until the kick..

i was going for Vitor, and had good faith in him to dethrone the champ... but anderson silva just keeps on suprising us....

Silva was really toying with Victor for the first minute of the fight, and Silva did land a higher percentage of strikes while Victor missed more. The fight would have probably been a similar reply of the Griffin fight. Silva probably would have gotten the TKO or KO late first round or mid second.

Vitor was not beating him to the punch and that takedown was given to him because Silva got is leg caught.

Did you miss Anderson clowning "the fastest hands in MMA" with the matrix head movement...it was just a matter of time.

Honestly these "What If" are kind of pointless...no one can really know what would have happened.

But just to play along, I think Vitor would have jumped at Silva right after the kick, stomp his foot and catch him in a flying gogoplata.

But Silva didn't miss.

I was wondering the same thing. If I only read about the headlines then I would have thought that Vitor would have won as a good number of people would have too. That's when he's the most deadliest; the first four minutes. As time goes on it goes to his opponents favour judging from fight history.

I've watched the fight about six times now. Anderson dodged some amazing shots from Belfort. Anybody else would have gotten KOed guaranteed. Vitor had five opportunities.

You remember the part where he ducked under Anderson's kick, what people didn't see was that he swung at him while Anderson was off balance and he DODGED it while falling backwards. Then as he landed on his back Vitor swung again with a right hook and guess what Anderson leaned back in the nick of time just missing it, then got up, threw a knee at Vitor and broke out of the clinch.

Vitor threw a left mid/high kick which Anderson blocked and returned with a low right kick. Immediately Vitor threw a 1 2 punch. Followed by a 1,2, 3 combo which whiffed since Anderson already moved out of the way. Sadly that would be his last. They stared at each other and Anderson capitalized with his "THIS IS SPARTA KICK!"

All the answers is in those three minutes. He dodged everything Vitor had albeit in a very short amount of time. In Anderson's FIRST MEANINGFUL strike...he miraculously KOs em. Seriously I couldn't even begin to tell you how that even happened. Look at the audience in the gifs. Nobody stood up screaming because they didn't know what just happened. Vitor didn't either. He just got cut down by a sniper bullet.

*NOTE* Vitor is still one of my favorite fighters. I would root for him against any other MW. Him vs Leben, Wand II, Stann, Belcher, Akiyama, Bisping, Maia would all be interesting!

Really good observation.. someone needs to make a gif with AS saying that!!

What if Silva didn't land that amazing kick which ko'd Vitor...?

What if Bones Jones didn't choke Bader?

What if Rampage didn't land that KO punch on Wanderlei?

What if Wanderlei didn't land that last knee which knocked out Rampage cold?

What if Rashad didn't hurt his knees?

What if GSP didn't jab Koscheck and break his orbital bone?

What if Dana White didn't run UFC?

What if the Germans won world war 2?

What if the world was a cube?

What if we had hands where our feet were and feet where our ears are?

Who cares about what if's? Silva won clearly...and if he didn't catch him with the kick he would have caught Vitor with something else. When somebody does something over and over and over it's not a fluke.

you my friend are a peasant. was this post really neccessary?, you have proved you dont understand the context of my question at all.

bader wasnt even close to reaching jones and was man handled on the ground so even if the choke didnt occur he would of got knocked out or lost via decision, wanderlei was an unstoppable beast in his pride days, when he entered the UFC and got knocked out by rampage we all know he was on the decline, and Koscheck was purely outclassed by the champ and would of got ass raped on the ground by GSP anyways had his orbital bone didnt break in round 1...

im am not calling the kick a fluke by any means so stop talkin s***, that is just taking away from the genius behind it.

im just saying in my opinion Belfort looked good, he tagged anderson a couple of times. he took it to the spider.

Anderson always has been and always will be the vastly superior striker. If it wasn't that kick it just would have been something else. Once Vitor let him get his distance the fight was already over. Vitor grazed him with the first punch and maybe a piece of the glove glanced against the end of Silva's nose on another he wasn't tagging him.

He would get a spinning back kick,
or he would have got a submission from his back,
or he would have got a TKO from the ground,

MATE, beleive the fact that Vitor is NO MATCH for this guy, AS is for real and each time he enters that cage he shows us something new. Plus all that, he wins his opponents in the area they are most powerful in !!!

So stop this:

If .... Then
Else
Then

statements :D

What if that kick had been slightly over to the middle of Vitors face? What if when the foot connected Silva's middle toe popped into Vitor's nose......If frogs had wings they would'nt bump their butt on the ground every time they hopped.

Lets hypothetically say Belfort anticipated the shot going for the head and leaned back.

I suppose Silva might have had to actually throw a punch or two...

Silva via punching Belfort on the chin until he stopped moving is the only other plausible outcome. (Considering Belfort hit Silva clean on the chin during one of the first exchanges and Silva laughed at him as he reset)

If that kick did not land then I believe another kick or punch would have landed that would have finished the fight in the 1st round.
