Lets not get ahead of ourselves surly the commission would have to approve this and didn't they already turn SF down with a similar proposal within there GP.
I don't think they turned SF down. SF said it would have been too complicated to attempt getting it approved through so many different commissions and abandoned the idea.
awesome! i remember this discussion on inside MMA and bas said he wanted to see this, i think it would be great, imagine machida vs rampage if it had 2 more rounds
so many fights...i think the number 1 contender should fight five rounds, its a lot harder to win a 5 round war than a 3 round war so this would make the number 1 contender more definitive than a close 3 round fight IMO
Not too keen on this. Perhaps for #1 contender it makes sense. To fight the champ you have to fight like the champ. But for a normal fight that happens to be a main event, I don't think so, may take the edge off of a Championship fight.
I know what your saying it would take something away from having the championship rounds with the title on the line, so I am also on the fence on this one.
But at the same time it could add something to certain fights, because I know I have seen fights before that have been non title that I would of liked to see go the extra rounds, but having said that its not always the main event that turns out that way.
Dude i will have new found respect for Dana and EVERYONE that works for the UFC if they can pull this off!
SOOOO MANY fights should be 5 rounds instead of 3 and Jon Fitch vs Bj Penn is easily one of those fights!
And everything in me wishes Machida vs Rampage would of been a 5 round fight, because if Machida had the title and fought Rampage that night, it would be been obvious down to Machida least favorite fan who won that fight.
When i rewatch Rampage vs Machida, even my friends that dont like Machida say he won that fight.
But Machida had fights handed to him in his past and to me he did win that fight so whatever BUT
ETHER WAY getting back on point, this just needs to Happen, there have to WAY to many Mega fights that were 3 round failures. ray01:ray01:ray01:
Good stuff, I've wanted this. If the fight is big enough to be main event, it normally has title shot implications and this will make that jump to a title shot just a little bit more demanding.
As far as MMA contestants going from 3 to 5 round bouts, it is not any different than boxers going from 4 to 6 to 8 to 10 to 12 round bout. We look at skill, experience and match-up.
I think I remember Dana saying, that it is only up to him and the UFC. If he says yes, let's do it  Then we would probably see them tomorrow.
It is a far better reflection of who actually wins. Most guys these days spend the first half of round 1 warming up and only end up fighting for 2 1/2 rounds.
Absolutely terrible decision. What determines a "main event" is completely arbitrary. For example, the "Main event" of a UFC Fight Night in most cases is quite a bit less important than the top four or five fights of a PPV card. Would the main event of a Fight night go 5 rounds if this goes through? Credibility of the sport dimishes greatly if this passes.
great news! i definitely think it's a good idea to make the main event 5 rounds. it seems to me that if fighters are good enough to be the main event of the evening then they should be good enough to withstand 5 rounds. especially if winning were to give the fighter a title shot.
I don't see the point. In my opinion, since the UFC has now 7 division, there is not a reason why every event should'nt have a title fight... exept for the fight nights of couurse. And even if there weren't title matches in an event, i dont really think its neccesary a 5 round fight. Some say for #1 contenders fight, but we know that you may win a contenders fight and not be the contender..... Also we would get less prelims showed since the PPV would be longer.
