I think Rich's good guy attitude gets him more hype. I mean, he's probably the nicest guy not named GSP, and people dig that. It's not really a measuring stick to rate a persons skill, but some people hate Hughes because of how he acted on TUF 2.

Rich is a good fighter, who has trouble fighting aggressive strikers. Once Rich knows he can't bully someone around, then he's out of the game. Machida beat him, and Silva brutally beat him. Why he actually decided to stand with Silva is still beyond me. He either didn't pay much attention to Anderson, or he was delusional enough to actually think he could trade punches with a world class striker with a great Thai fighting game.

Rich beat Tanner twice. That's a nice accomplishment. He beat a very gun shy Loiseau, so that doesn't impress me much.

Actually yes I do think Liddell and especially Hughes are more hyped and overrated than Franklin...I just gave up saying it because dissing Hughes is blasphemy in the eyes the UFC "True Believers"...you know the guys, they look at a win/loss column and figure that it's the last word. And Liddell, what's the point in dissing him when they're not putting anything better than B-Level fighters like Tito Ortiz in front of him.

And I dont think McDonald is a "scrub"...he lost some fights early on in his career but that's what happens, that's what pushes fighters to their limits and either ends it for them or makes them work their asses of to become better. And he's got some talent...yeah he has a long way to go and he's by no means the best but neither is Rich Franklin. And Rich is going to be desperate to put on a good show, possibly over confident, possibly under-confident? Who knows? What I do know is that any one of these guys has what it takes to capitalize on a mistake and win. Lytle could beat Hughes, Serra could beat GSP *shudders*...Lutter almost beat Silva...that shit happens. You're all crazy to write Jason McDonald off like you have. And if the fight happens I'm betting every point on him...it's a long shot but I'm willing to put my pretend money where my mouth is!

What makes you think he isnt. Look at the guys hes lost to, and look at the rejects hes won against in the UFC. Also losing to them a 1-2 years ago is not "early" in a fighters career. Ill admit fighters can improve in that time but not to a point that makes you a threat in any division.

Franklin didn't just beat his opponents in the UFC, he destroyed them. No fight even looked hard for him except for the Crow fight in which he shattered his hand and still won. He had to get surgery with screws and a plate installed for his hand to heal. 7-8 Months later he comes back finally after a long time healing to fight Anderson and he definately wasn't on top of his game. He came back and he lost now all I hear is "Franklin is washed up" "franklin is overrated".

Give him a break..

Yeah... that fight between Tanner and Baroni in UFC Fortysomething (an actual event, not some bizaree MMA/soap crossover) was fantastic. Tanner took such a hammering, and from so early on, and then he somehow pulled it together. He did some good work in the clinch and then eventually got Baroni down. Once he was on him his GAP was great- he was like a machine with the elbows he was dropping. He might not be the best in the world, but personally I am not going to say anything bad about him after having seen that fight a few times.

There are too many Rich Franklin is ____ threads on this forum. Anderson smoked his ass because Rich for some reason thought he could stand and even get into the clinch. Also Evan Tanner is a good fighter and a tough son of a *****, most of the fights I see him lose are because of bad cuts.

I can see someone calling Tanner a solid gatekeeper, but a can? You either don't know much about Tanner, or you are an extremely snobby MMA fan. I'm guessing the former. Rich TKO'd Tanner in the first round in their first fight, and just gave him a long beating in their second. You forget that Tanner is a tough bastard, and took some nasty shots from Baroni and didn't quit. The guy beat David Terrell(Gave him a king sized asswhoopin'), Phil Baroni twice, & Robbie Lawler. He may not be an elite fighter, but he definitely was a tough opponent.
