Rick Franklin is overrated.
I honestly think Rich Franklin is the most hyped up champion in UFC history. Now before you say anything about Anderson Im going to state that I thought this before he got creamed by him. Before that loss everyone thought he was gods gift to mma. Why I ask? The best victories he ever had were against Evan Tanner, David Loiseau and an on his way to retirement Ken Shamrock. Seriously Tanner and Loiseau to me are proving ground fighters, not championship material in the big scheme of things. They all just happened to luck into a division that was weak as hell at the time(can you say Tim Sylvia). The 2 guys with I think the skills to really be champions(Machida and Silva) punished the hell out of him. Is he a decent well rounded fighter who deserves his respect? Sure, but please sit down and grab a beer as the UFC feeds him overhyped scrubs(Macdonald) and bring in new better talent that will continue to work his ass once he gets back in title contention until the title isnt even a thought on anyones mind for this guy.
And unfortunately I cant find where I can edit the TITLE damn you Rick Franklin...

You don't think Liddell is more hyped than Franklin? You don't think Hughes is more hyped than Franklin?
Franklin doesn't get that much hype for being a UFC champion. I don't think he's an incredible fighter, but he's very good and he's a smart fighter, which is why he stayed on top of the UFC middleweight division for so long. (That, and because the UFC refused to contract with Lindland)
Frankly, I think Sylvia is way more publicized with his last few poor performances, but that's just an opinion.

The difference here I think is the talent level that goes along with the Hype. Also Im not just saying how the UFC promotes him but fans and people on forums.

who in the UFC's MW division could have beat him over the past few years he held the belt? its not that the ufc was feeding him cans to fight, its that those guys were all they had to put up against franklin. now with silva here, he obviously outclassed franklin. lyoto machida is another guy who will be a force in that division. macdonald wont beat rich, and rich will get a rematch with the spider. but really the spider is simply a better fighter. that doesnt mean rich was overhyped, because he did beat all the guys he fought. he just wasnt facing the best competition.

Of course they fed him cans. If they didnt then he would have fought Linland and not Nate Quarry.

i agree. franklin is hyped big time. I won lots of points on the anderson fight. If you watch as ufc progresses there top fighter are slowly being brought in not rising from existing ranks. Anderson, cro cop, rampage, these all where pride fighter's not that long ago. UFC 67 should'ev almost been pride 33. Crcop will beat tim. Rampage may beat chuck. He did it once hopefully he can do it again. A lot of there fighter's seem to hyped but thats not the fighter's fault. Thats lack of talent in the ufc. The aren't going to say rich franklin the best middle weight except if you count silva and henderson. They can only compare them to ufc fighter's. Thats why hughes is worse cause gsp and bj are better.

i agree with this assessment. as Dana signs more top talent all the divisions will be deeper and whoever manages to hold the belt in each division will be getting the hype they deserve
