I really like Overeem, he is (and has been for some time) one of my favourite fighters.
But I don't know how well he would fare against the top Heavyweights in the UFC, and I suggest you don't know anymore than I do.
I'm not even sure he will win the Strikeforce GP just yet, much as I hope he does.
I would love to see him in the UFC and I would hope he is successful there as and when.
But his career has been a mixed bag, he has been knocked out pretty badly in the past...ok most of these KO;s and bad defeats came pre huge weight gain and he does look a more complete (if less agile striker) fighter now.
But what has he done really just yet to make everyone so damn sure he would walk through everyone? He one the K1 GP yes, and that was a wonderful achievement but he has also lost to Remy and Hari in recent fights in the K1.
In mma, under mma rules should I say he has impressed more than his actual record should really produce. Who has he actually beat right now? I think we should all weight until he beats the likes of Werdum, Big Foot, Fedor, Barnett and Sergei before we get carried away and declare him the new BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET.
He doesn't even have someone like Arlovski on his record, his most recent wins come against Rogers and Duffee (not exactly top pedigree competition)
James Thompson? yea amazing victory
Cain has been sensational since he entered the UFC, he is 100% and has outclassed everyone he has faced. I would suggest Lesnar, Kongo and Big Nog are probbaly bigger names on his CV than Overeem has currently (mma not kickboxing terms)
Let's just watch what happens with the GP and wait to see if he ever does go to UFC, there really is no need to act like such potential match ups are foregone conclusions right now because none of us know how they would play out just yet.
