Jon Jones "I look for imperfections in his physique"

Quote:
"If you look really closely at my past fights, I never actually look into the guyís eyes. Nor do I do it at weigh-ins. At weigh-ins normally I just look off into the audience and it kind of plays a little mind game on my opponents a lot of times. They donít really know how to react to that."

"As far as when Iím in the Octagon, Iím always looking at the opponentís body when Iím standing there. Iím big on not fighting an opponentís name, his credentials, his past fights, his face. I fight the body and when Iím standing across and Iím looking at his body, Iím really just humanizing the guy, and looking at imperfection in his physique orÖ You know thereís a quote that says, ĎIf a guy looks soft in the mid-section, usually he is soft in the mid-section.í So Iím just humanizing the opponent. Thatís what Iím doing. For Ryan Bader it wasnít that easy though because Iím staring at the guyís body and the guyís built like an NFL linebacker, but yeah Iím just excited when Iím out there and getting ready to fight the human."
Yeah im glad he touched on Bader. When i was reading this i was thinking "Well Bader doesn't have many imperfections to look at.. you must have been scared sh!t less lol"

I'm speaking way out of turn and I could be completely wrong but Jon Jones may be the next Bruce Lee on a mental level. His mentality on the fight game is truly unique compared to MMA fighters.

Interesting to hear you say that based on the post above. Fitch was just quoted a day or two ago saying the same thing about fighting a fighters body and not his name or face. Plus I'd be very hesitant to compare a 23 year old phenom to a man who spent his entire life pushing the boundaries and limits of martial arts, both physically and mentally. It may be true, but like you said: It's way early for that.

I don't think that Jones is trying to play with the other guy's head by not meeting his eyes either. Personally I thnk it's the same thing that Takanori Gomi talked about. Meeting your opponent's eyes raises your stress level and can get your worked up. If you're that kind of guy better to just gaze off in the distance and stay calm. Maybe he's telling the truth but I don't entirely believe it.

LOL @ your lack of knowledge/respect for Bruce Lee. Read up, the man's mentality was nothing like Jon Jones who just started watching youtube vids of fighting a few years ago!

That pic is honestly hilarious; Bones looks like he wants to murder Baders forehead and Bader looks like he is doing his best chicken impersonation.

Bones does have a sick attitude. Getting past big names and the intimidation that would go along with taking on one would be really tough.

The thing is though that Bones has really never faced a big name unless you would consider a declining Vera a big name. If anything Bones was certainly the bigger name is the Bader fight. So he may say this but perhaps when he is standing across from his first truly "big name" fighter he will think differently. Perhaps not. Shogun does fit the bill in terms of having a little soft spot sometimes lol.

The 2nd coming of Bruce Lee, wow. I'm not about the dogpile, especially on admins, but wow bud. As a big fan of Bruce, that is brutal, I'm sure it wasn't the intention, but some shit needs to be called out.
