*Mental injury* - that was his biggest problem going into this fight.
He had high hopes in fighting Codit, especially with Condit's named being mentioned in the same sentence as "title shot", after the Hardy fight.

Lytle had good reasons to believe that a win over Condit would get him very close to a title fight.

But a win against Ebersole, wouldn't have meant anything for his title hopes. I think he *disconnected* when he found out Condit pulled out.
But of course, he can't/won't admit it!

He had that rare ability of being one of the most humblest (sincere, not front) dudes you would find while at the same time had the ability to tear an arm or knock your head off. Definitely one of my favorite fighters. If true I'm gonna miss the fastball rights.

Retirement? He's been on the best winning streak of his career and he's really starting to look good, unlike before he just looked exciting.

He gets one unexpected loss and he's starting to crumble? That's so weird, never saw him as being mentally weak.

I don't think it's a matter of him being mentally weak, but rather looking at things realistically. I think he mentioned before that he was going to make one more push to try to get a title shot, he's 36 and has been fighting for twelve years on top of working a job and supporting a family.

He's seen a lot of mileage in his career, even for a huge Lytle fan like myself, it's not surprising that he's aware that the ending is near. It kills me that he might never get his title shot despite being so competitive for so many years and putting on so many great fights.
