pre-fight vs. post-fight trash talking

Bisbing and Lesnar come to mind. Both gave their opponents and earful after their fights. Both spit ironically!

Both apologized, rightly so. However, it seems post-fight trash talk enrages fans far more than pre-fight. I don't get that. I thought Rivera's pre-fight antics were pretty outrageous and demeaning, and Bisbing's tirade after the fight was mild in comparison. He KO'd him and called him a loser. I mean what did Rivera expect a hug?

Lesnar's antics were also mild compared to Mir's. But they were post fight, and everyone got offended.

Not sure I'm getting what all the fuss is about when it's post fight. I would love the fighters to be professional both pre and post fight, but it's not a perfect world.

The knee was unfortunate wheter it was intentional or not but as for the rest of Bispings post fight antics all I can say is that Rivera got what was rightfully coming to him for this unprovoked humiliation of a fighter of much higher ranking.

Don't talk abundant smack and then cry when you get what's comming for you. If I went to a stranger at a pub and insulted him I'd expect a fist in my face as a response. I wouldn't cry about it because I knew it would be my own fault.

People will forgive people they support and lambaste people they dislike for doing exactly the same things, I just pretend like these people don't exist.

i think alot of people assume pre fight trash is just for show and is some sort of standard procedure with no real intentions of disrespect...

but in both cases, Lesnar and bisping, they were both extremely disrespected by their opponents. however they quietly went about there training and preparation for the fight whilst their opponents concentrated more on talking smack and making embarrassing youtube videos...

I'd say pre-fight stuff is 70/80% acting/hyping the fight, maybe some fighters need to build some sort of hatred towards their opponents in order to perform.

Post fight stuff might have more reasons
1. pre fight stuff being taken too seriously
2. long term image building (if people hate you, they want to see you get smashed therefore you might fight more often and maybe even tougher opponents, just my 2cts here)

When there's that much money involved one can't be sure of anything

and as much as I kinda like this kind of hype, I fear it going towards some more "WWE"-ish kind of things, maybe Zuffa should go easy on that extra hype. I feel it's the easy route to success but at what cost?

And TBH, fans who take this thrash talking thing on 1st degree, well, they shouldn't, I'm working in marketing and I'm pretty sure, from my experience, that most of it is probably fake/acting (maybe some of em think at their reconversion, retirement plans and use it as an opportunity to train as actors?)

I don't remember Lesnar spitting on Mir, just a lot of spittle came out when he yelled at him. Lesnar was completely wrong to go over and yell and make threatening moves towards Mir post fight. I'm pretty sure I said the same comment back then as well.

If Lesnar did purposefully spit on Mir, or at Mir, then that is wrong and he should have been punished. I think he is just a spitter when he gets worked up and starts talking. We all know at least 1 person like that, 'Say it, don't spray it!'.

There's definitely a difference between the Lesnar and Bisbing spits. Apparently Bisbing hit a training (he claims it was an accident). That's a little out of hand, so something needs to be done for that part.

People get so offended because when you talk thrash pre-fight, at least you have a chance to go in there and beat the crap outta the guy who insulted you. That makes him look stupid and you look good, as it should be. But if you berate/spit/punch you opponent after you've won, that's just being a dick because you can :P

So you equate berating with spitting and punching? That seems awfully extreme.

And is spitting and punching your opponent pre-fight any better than punching or spitting at them post-fight?

Honestly I don't get.

One thing I don't like is the multitude of fights where all kinds of trash talking goes on, and there is apparent hatred, only for them to hug and kiss and be polite after the fight. This seems to happen all the time, and does more to make UFC seem like WWE, because the 'heat' feels fake and manufactured. The above doesn't refer to some light respect being banded about after being in the octagon together, but more to the all in love-athons that seem to occur as soon as a fight has ended, along with phrases such as 'I didn't mean any of it' and 'it was all for hype'.

If the hatred continues in to the post match, then at least you sense its real. Given that UFC is trying to distinguish itself from manufactured entertainment such as WWE, then I'd argue that this situation, along with standard fights that don't contain fake hatred, is preferable to me.

At least I feel like I've paid to see a grudge match that has an actual grudge in it.
