Is Couture's return to the octagon just a ploy...

by the UFC to avoid having another Ex-Pride fighter stroll in and destroy one of their title holders? It's great that the UFC is getting this talent but it really says something about the credibility of their past claims of having the "best of the best".

I think their plan/hope is to have Randy come out of retirement for this one fight, beat Tim and hang up the gloves once and for all. Then have some sort of tournament for the title. There is no way that Randy is ever going to step int the octagon with CC...he's too old and he's just not that stupid.

Your thoughts?

Randy's gonna' have his hands full with a man much bigger and stronger opponent than the guy that just knocked him out twice in the light heavyweight division. Sylvia will give Randy all he can handle and then some. Tim could very well beat Randy, and probably will.

Also, a retired champion coming out of retirement and beating the heavyweight champion doesn't realy show that the UFC has the top talent. It shows that the champ got beat by an aging fighter making a comeback. Not really a statement of dominance for the organization.

Man shut the **** up. They got Couture because they didn't want Gonzanga main eventing a PPV for obvious reasons. If they wanted to protect Sylvia so much, they wouldn't have signed Cro Cop. I am as much of a Pride fan as you are but seriously, stop this shit. It's getting really annoying. Anyone of importance will tell you Pride has better fighters, and there is no point in agruing with other members of this forum who obviously are new to this sport. If it makes you feel very superior to be amongst the 40-50 members on this forum that have good knowledge about MMA, then thats great for you. But we don't need this. Go back to sherdog where they allow you to diss new fans. But here(if you haven't already noticed) the educated fans are out numbered by the newer fans, and thus your ignorant and "clever" Pride nuthugging and UFC bashing isn't liked.

Of course he signed a 4 fight deal...it wouldn't be a very clever ploy if he had only signed for one fight. Sheesh, you people really dont understand how conspiracies work do you!

And secondly, I am not "hugging the nuts" of any organization (which makes no sense by the way) so there's no need to get your brown pimpin panties in a knot.

You people need to chill out. If you go around losing your cool and freaking out on everyone and anyone who disagrees with you or says something unpopular it wouldn't be much of a forum now would it

first off, the ufc didn't "get" couture. he wanted to come back, and when someone of his status wants to come out of retirement, you let him. even if dana didnt want a tim vs. randy fight, what choice did he have...a gonzaga vs. tim fight? that wouldn't sell.

second, randy inked a four fight deal. so there goes your one fight and hang up the gloves theory. maybe if he gets beat badly i could see him hanging em up, but a contract is a contract.

third, having randy "come out of retirement for this one fight, beat Tim" and then starting a tournament for the title just sounds a little off. why? because randy is the underdog. if you want someone to beat tim, you'd put him against someone who has a better chance to win: mirko.

no one in the ufc is protecting tim. they signed cro cop for christ's sake. having a 43 year old come out of retirement to beat the current champ would further prove the ufc has less talent than pride, so why would they want this? randy came out of retirement himself, the ufc didnt beg for him to come back.

pride definitely has better fighters than the ufc right now, everyone knows it. so no need to make this a big conspiracy to protect their past claims of having the best fighters.

I'm assuming it was the latter.

I think it was pretty clear who it was meant for.
