So... who would Rashad fight if Bones wins all his fights?

The situation doesn't work Limbs. One of them actually has to swap divisions. They cant co-exist.

Rashad is the one who said he could move up or down (down more likely).
Jones will eventually move to HW, but that is 4-5 years from now imo.

Agreed. But still leaves the question : what if Rashad won the belt? Who would the rest of the division fight? In which order?

Come on my man... you have to accept, that having a situation where the #1 contender wont fight the champ, is madness.

I'm not saying it isn't...but what can we do?!
If they decided, based on a set of moral principles, that they won't fight eachother, what is there to be done?!

You can't force them to fight! That's for sure...
Fine them?! Suspend them?! Bad idea!

These days, every division has at least 2-3 fighters in every division.

So far it hasn't come to this: teammate vs teammate for the title. Not even for a number 1 contender's spot.
Fitch vs Kos has always been something of a problem.

If you ask me - let them fight!
But if they don't want to...that's it.
the UFC/Dana doesn't own them.
I believe slavery has been abolished a long time ago!

They are mture enough to deal with this situation!
Rashad has to move to MW if Jones beats Shogun, but even if Jones gets his ass kicked then one of them will more than likely become champ at some point and the problem remains because Jones now has status as a top LHW. They're both big names and very marketable, Dana's not going to let one of them knock off contenders. If they persist with this then they could cmpletely disrupt the LHW division but unfortunately for Rashad Dana doesn't stand for that crap and it's either MW for Rashad or don't fight.

As far as I'm concerned its's stupid to create these situations. Rashad and Jackson allowing such a talented LHW to join their team, then agreeing not to fight. Why bother just for the sake of an extra sparring partner? There's not many fighters as talented as JBJ, there was no need to create this mess.

But seeing as they did and that's what they wanted, they should also not be prepared to step in font of one another like has happened. Because it went from being only a minor issue to Rashad having to move divisions.

They didn't want to fight so they should have avoided each other.

They didn't avoid each other so now they should fight.

Still don't want to fight? Ok Rashad put a block on your LHW career. Good one.

Agreed! Not in everything you say, but in most parts!

Rashad put a block on his LHW career as soon as he gave the thumbsup for Jones to join Jackson Camp.
Because even at that point, Jones was slowly developing into a world class fighter.
I'm sticking by my opinion: he Rashad and Greg Jackson couldn't have predicted this situation would come so soon, only one year after Jones joined Jackson camp.

And it came after a string of unfortunate and hard to anticipate events:
1. Rashad injuring himself
2. Rampage declining the title fight against Shogun

If Rashad or Rampage would have fought Shogun for the title - we wouldn't discuss this situation right now.
We would have discussed wich contender would Jones fight next: Rampage, Machida, Griffin, Thiago Silva (without the failed drugs test). Or Shogun - win or lose against Rashad.

Allthough, the main problem wouldn't be solved this way either: Jones and Rashad crossing paths at one moment in time.

If Rashad said he is willing to drop to MW just to avoid Jones - fair play to him! Preserving your moral values, in wich you believe. I'm saying MW because, HW is out of the question imo - he isn't a big LHW so he would be a small HW = getting beat up by stronger guys.
In fact i think he could be a force at MW - he would be very strong and with his wrestling he could be a force.

But, time will tell...as is *settles down* over our infinite debates!

In Boxing, apart from some rare exceptions ( Khan/Pacman or the Klit bros ) the top fighters dont train with their main competitors. There are, however, 100x more boxing gyms and trainers then there are MMA equivalents. I think this is the main reason behind the mess. When there are only a handful of top draw MMA gyms to fight out of, what choice do the fighters have? If they want the best training, they inevitably have to train with other top fighters in their own divisions.

I'm of the belief that as MMA grows, this will become less of an issue, as more and more of the top fighters will have the ability to get top training without having to share with their direct competitors. Its a matter of time. After all, one on one combat is the sport of loners. Its not a team based lifestyle. If there were 10 gyms like AKA and another 10 like Jacksons, and 10x the amount of fighters, this problem will generally cease to be.

Well put!
But, liek you said: right now it's really hard for something like that to happen, but in the future, it will happen.
I tsee a lot of fighters opening their own gyms and hiring great coaches for each discipline.

In a way it's started: Randy opening his own gym. Wanderlei opening his own gym.
Bader and Simpson opened their own gym after leaving Arizona Combat Sports. I believe it's called Power MMA And Fitness.
Brock Lesnar has his own gym...or sort of.

I can see a lot of famous fighthers opening their own gyms after they retire.

At this moment the problem is: when a MMA rookie wants to become a great fighter he will first try and go to the most renowned gyms: like Jackson, AKA, ATT, Blakhouse or Extreme Couture...because he konws a lot of elite fighters are training there.

It's like every youn soccer player wanting to go to Barcelona, Manchester United or AC Milan. Everyone wants to go to the best gyms/camps first.

The ones that don't make it there, have to settle for other camps.

Exactly.

If you took every MMA fighter, and asked them all where they would like to train in a perfect world? They would mostly all choose the same 5 or 6 camps.

In Boxing, there must be 1000 extremely reputable gyms throughout the world. The champions come from camps all over the globe and manage to stay well away from all their close competitors. Its just so established and widespread.

The UFC and MMA is going nowhere. Its only a matter of time before its engrained in our sporting cultures and the popularity explodes.

When you say nowhere, you mean - EVERYWHERE! lol

As MMA evolves, the interest for MMA will grow also.
And the demand for MMA gyms will rise also.

I can see fighters like Rampage, BJ, Forrest, Franklin and many more, opening their own gym and having succes with that.

Although, training with other fighters, even from your own division will never go away, especially when there are fighters becoming frinds and creating tight bonds bewtween them.

PS: There was this fight - Kenny vs Guida. Kenny had Firas Zahabi in his corner and Guida had Greg Jackson in his, even though Jackson is known to corner GSP, who trains at Tristar. Interesting fact.
A proof it can happen, even in a tight environment such as Tristar-Jackson camp.
